Is the vin and date stamp on a C2 trans stamped with the same stamps as the engine vin? Is the differential also the same?
Thanks, Jeff

The format of the transmission VIN derivative stamp changed somewhat through the years. In '63-'64, it was the same as the one on the engine (number for the model year followed by the last six digits of the VIN).

'65 was the same, but in early November '64 it changed; from then until the end of the model year, it just had an "S" prefix, followed by the last six of the VIN, with no "5" for the model year.

For '66, it changed again, to a "6", followed by an "S", followed by the last six of the VIN.

For '67, it was a "7", followed by an "S", followed by the last six of the VIN.

The differential was never stamped with a VIN derivative; only the ratio code and assembly date.

Were the same stamps used... size and lettering style

Jeff, I don't think so but will let John give the correct answer. Here are photos of my 67 stamps for you to make the call. Not the best photos to compare though.

Yes. The trans VIN stamp character height was the same size as the one on the engine pad; fonts were the same or similar (the dies were purchased from several different suppliers).
