Man, over five and a half seconds to get to 60?
That's the big thing where these cars lose out: in practical performance. Who accellerates for a solid 1/4-mile on the street? Not many. But how many of us have to get up to speed after a stop light or somesuch?
With no torque, these little 4-bangers have no real-world performance. They always have to invent all sorts of artificial conditions to allow themselves to compete. When they want to compare their car, running race fuel and with a completely illegal exhaust system, to your street-legal Corvette that runs fine on 93 octane from any gas station in the country, you know they can't compete, in the real world.
