Hmmmm new issue

My son replaced the hose from the sending unit to the frame line...
Once complete.... he watched for sweating.. and sure enough the seam between the pipe and the sender flange was doing just that...
I remember changing that sender out in 03 and thought it was pretty cheap at the time.....

SO 2 questions... 1) Is there a good temp fix, like a 2 part marine epoxy to stop the leak... which has self sealed.. for now.
2 ) Better after market sender assy's out there?

The tank was replaced before I got the car.. so that's ok....

The only real fix to any plastic or rubber line fuel leak is replacement of the leaking part. If the offending part is a metal line seam or joint you can solder the junction that is weeping. I know of nothing you can wipe, spray or brush on that will be more that a temporary repair. With the energy density and solvent strength of gasoline I do not mess around. I have soldered many fuel tanks and sending units but they were all metal. You or I do not want to burn our cars to the ground. Bad investment.

I agree. The ONLY acceptable repair for that leak is to re-solder the joint. If the sending unit works, save it and fix it - the reproductions are a crapshoot.

The one currently in there........

... is a repro.....and still sweating... ever so slightly...
So I've been looking at replacements... and they seem like all cheapo repro's.

I do not disagree that it's a bubba fix..but I believe a bit better then fuel wicking down the pipe and dropping on hot exhaust...

So I think.. I'll do the epoxy thing while I locate another one...and have it brazed, soldered whatever at the pipe going thru the mount..

So now where are the numbers for the tranny and the diff ?

The J65 engine is the one that will go in ( when all is said and done ).....

Mine were stamped on the bottom edge of the differential (see photo 2) and the sides of the transmission. Date code on one side and VIN (photo 1) on the other.

Will the Fireo seats give you more room under that stock 16" steering wheel? Are they power seats? They are GM it can't be too bad to fit to the '64.

Assuming stock tires.. how high off the deck , (assuming flat level deck) should the bottom of the exterior fender lip (center) be off the ground for the front and rear ?

AND where is a good detail drawing of the reverse switch mounting to the manual transmission ?

It has to be over 75% of the tire height....

eg my rear end.... has 3" of clearance between the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender ( ergo the " jacked up" look ) ...
Where as my front end the fender covers the top 10% of the tire...

I thought you were asking for ground clearance. It is 8" to the bottom of the rocker on the front and the rear. Measure what you have and extrapolate what the your gap from the top of the tire to the wheel well opening should be. if you have 6 inches to the front rocker panel (just behind the front tire) and 10 inches to the rear (just ahead of the rear tire) you have a rake that is not as manufactured. There are many different views as to the "stance" or the amount of tire reveled in the wheel opening. That is personal preference and usually no two people agree. If you have 8" to the front and 8" to the rear rocker panel the bottom of the car is level. What the gap is I do not know. Look at as many Corvettes as you can and you will find what you like. Then "Make it so".

Ok I have so many projects

I'm going to farm the following out to the frame shop///
Here's the plan

In order of gotta, need to , Nice to haveGOTTA.....
1) Rear spring ( and alignment ).
* I cannot find a " spec" for how high the fender needs to be off the deck with the car standing on the ground, on it's tires so this one is an eyeball...


2) Fuel pickup / sender... Careful the 2 pins on the bottom are different size ( big OD and small OD ) if ya flip em the gauge goes POOF.


3) Door weather strip.


Need to.......


4) Fuel pump replacement, metal feed ( oh and fuel filter ) line to carb.


5) Reverse switch ( and Oh by the way you need 2 more parts which I failed to deliver , but have ).
AND again no good reference pix.. but this is close ( but the rod is installed WRONG ) 1972 Corvette reverse light switch - YouTube


Nice to have ( if this hasn't broken the bank ).....


6) The brake back up test.. to see if the star adjusters will take up...


7) Shifter arm & boot replacement ( no parts delivered yet ).and there's an OH BY THE WAY THERE
7a) The PO used the wrong screws to hold the top on the ashtray slide door ( round heads instead of flat heads ).
7b) The car WAS red interior, now black so the center console has to come out anyway.. What would it cost to prep, mask & paint the center console black AND keep all the chrome..?


and number 8 ( which your gonna HATE ) .....


8) I want to change the seats....
a popular retrofit is Fiero seats ( stop cringing ) Look up MrMikes Leather Corvette Seat Upholstery


So before I sink a ton of $$ into the covers... I want to EXPLORE what it will take to fab up NICE brackets to adapt
from the GM ( Corvette seats ) to the GM ( Fiero seats ) which I happen to have a pair of these in the garage in a fab grey cloth.
The goal is to put em in, in such a manner that I could switch back N forth by just unbolting the same bolts the GM had put in the floor pan(s)...


9) Hi torque starter motor


10 ) Reverse the side the ALT lives on... and yes I have the stuff ( including harness from Lectric limited )......

Sites for RPO codes

Back in the Bay Area, I was in Oxnard not far from Valencia over the Holiday. This allows the business to know what options the vehicle was originally produced with. It doesn't work for my '65 Coupe, but it did for my '95 Silverado. Late model Corvettes should work. It allows 1 free VIN search and then you have to buy into the site. For a business it is invaluable. It doesn't cost much for the entry level. $5.00 a month for 50 searches.

Fake shifter is in, new boot is in.. center console out all old black . red painted area is stripped.. new center console repair kit on order ( ash tray door, shift pattern etc etc ) ....
Where we noticed something ..ODD

When they put the new tires ( at the tire store ) on they mixed up the front & back rims so the offsets are WRONG... grrrrrrrrr.

Easy fix...

Dropped off more parts...

I can't work on the car here, in the rain since the 73 hangar queen resides in the garage..

The backup light switch installation is shown in section T86 at the back of your Assembly Manual; here are a couple of photos showing it installed.
