What' this plug for?

I had exactly the same problem, I though replacing the wires would be one of the easier ways I could work on the car and help the performance, I was wrong, I am glad I got it done but it was the hardest set of plug wires I have ever installed. Actually the front two on the passengers side did not get replaced. I had just removed and replaced the starter the night before I started the plug wires and I was not going to remove it again just to get the shield off so I could replace those two wires, I inspected them and they are in good shape, so were all the ones I removed actually, so I did a "bubba" and just changed six of the wires, car runs great, radios sounds good and started works fine so I am happy.

The next week I did the the "u-joints" that is also a job that lots of folks do but if I had to do it again I would just pay to get it done like I did with the read wheel bearings.

I replaced all 8, and I was able to get the wire's through without removing the starter. I just removed the shield bolts to loosen it. After removing the old wires I was able to thread the new wires through the shield. I did crimp the shield where the wires come out near the engine mount so it didn't cut the new wires since they were now routed around the motor mount. I had a problem getting the shield bolt that goes though the motor mount back in until I noticed the bracket and hole in the engine weren't aligned. I guess it shifted while I was leaning over to replace plugs. I had to jack up the engine a tiny bit to align it. Not a job I look forward to anytime soon.

Ed, well i have the definative answer. i went and looked in my assembly manual(should have before) . yes the plug is for the alarm switch.the switch mounts to a pedestal affixed to the inside of the left front fender next to the keyswitch.
my wires are also disconnected and bundled up. i guess non of them ever worked too good!

ahhhh i love a challenge
