To get back to the question

" Why spend building when you can just buy a stronger vette?"

My opinion is that there is a certain amount of pride and a sence of accomplishment when you do something like boosting power and improving handling on something you already own and enjoy.

BLACKTALON said it well,
Run what ya brung!! and hope ya brung enuff!!!:gap
but some folks never listen or learn.

Reminds me of the * who pulls out a switchblade knife in the midst of an argument with a Mod. The Mod blows the *’s head off with a .44, blows the smoke off of the barrel and says, ¨ain’t it just like a * to show up with a pocket knife at a gunfight¨?:L;LOL

* fill in with any PC incorrect stereotype of your preference and blame it on me.:booty

Now, back to the discussion at hand.

:louman Gotta love you guys and those big mod C-4's. I got to many irons in fire right now but that new GM big bore bowtie block isn't going to sit in the corner forever!!! :rThat UPS man just keeps bring parts for Callaway and that motor! :rotfl :crazy

now if there was only a way to modify the callaway turbo snorkel to fit perfectly on a tall deck block :D

I think every corvette is worth having, there really isn't a bad year in particular. Any corvette lover will tell you that. I am partial to the C4 because this is the car I grew up seeing, and the first corvette for me to own. I will eventually add other generations to the family.

I find enjoyment in making my C4 a better car, and each bit of work that goes in the car, the more it reflects me and what I am like as a person. I think working on the cars we own, is just the way we are.

Hey guy's all the money spent on superchargers/383 builds and other things to make our cars faster why not jus buy a stronger vette?

What vette is stronger for the price range of a good C4 and 6-10K worth of mods?

Not to bash any of the C5 owners out there, but in my opinion the C5 has got to be the least attractive vette that was ever produced and the biggest. When GM designed the rear of that car what was they thinking about (WAY TO MUCH A--) vettes are meant to be small & sexy. Though she is great in performance, the C2 is my pick

IMO out of the C4, C5, and C6 model the C5 is the best looking of the bunch. The C4 doesn't have any curves and the C6 front reminds me of a smiling toothless old crone. I love the C5s rear view and when I am done modding my C4 I will be buying a C5 FRC or ZO6 and then the LSX mods will begin.

Thats just it the 6-10k can be a hella down payment on a newer vette! then mod the LS1/LS2!

If you are looking at strictly a speed standpoint, consider this. You buy an L98 or LT1 corvette with some miles. Put 6 grand into the engine, and another 4 grand into the drive train and other suspension parts. Figure you paid 7 grand for the car. You now have 17 grand into a car that will out run a stock LS1. Not to mention I have not seen any C5's this cheap yet. In my area I have not seen them under 20 grand. That is one way I look at things.

Some people like the look of the C4 'Vettes. Personally, the C4 look is my favorite. I also like the raw feel of the C4 when you're driving it.

Plus, SBC I parts are so common and inexpensive that it doesn't really take that much.

All C-4s are a great deal and the 90 – 96s make everything else on the road look like overpriced crap. Name one other 15+ year old car that will outperform a brand new top of the line Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari.
If you managed to name one can you buy it for less than $25K? (oops now you know what the Z cost. Don't tell the wife!)
Add to that working AC, electric seats, low maintenance and you have what is commonly called a bargain!* *Spark plug cost: Ferrari retails for $30 ea., BMW M3 $16.75, ZR-1 $5. The best deal on a Ferrari oil filter on eBay today is $35.95 do I need to go on?

Thunder with his 383, Brimbo brakes, Z-51 rack and pinion, competition springs, re-valved shocks, beefed up 400R4, Sony/Infinity sound system and GPS navigation cost substantially less than that.

I will give 2:1 odds that Thunder will spank any stock C-5 ever built. The ZR-1 with it’s Jeal prepared LT-5 that Jeal claims hit 435HP on the dyno is no match for Thunder until well over 100 MPH and if I blow Thunder up doing something stupid I can put him back together in my garage over the weekend.:lou

well said spanish vettes!
nothing like a nice, clean, sexy late model c4 vette!
i saw a guy the other day in a yellow 98 model c5 vette and when i went to wave and toot to him, he just ignored me!
i thought to myself ha!!
well done mate, your not the only good looking one on the road.
i am very happy with my sexy looking c4 vette!
cheers

I have a little more invested in my C-4 than the number some are talking but have no regrets. The outside of my car looks stock other than the wider wheels and tires but most people know so little about a Corvette that they don't know but what it is stock.
I have raced a couple Ferrari's
I love the look on their face when I blow them away with my 17 year old vette.
Below is a list of my mods.
Much more fun to build instead of buying a fast car.
Recently I was in a Chevy dealer looking at a new vette that was sitting on the show room floor and the salesman ask me if I was interested in trading. I ask him how much boot he would pay me and he said he couldn't do that and I replied well we can't trade then because I would much prefer to drive what I have than your new one. Hey different strokes for different folks.
