With These C3's It NEVER Stops

One of your jb weld calipers leaking?

Not yet, but soon.

This leaker is the Chinese made one.

Or maybe not because it may not be leaking, since he didn't even look at it.

But it still has to be a Chinese part that went bad.

Leaking Right Front Caliper

I got my leaking right front caliper repaired yesterday. It took longer than usual because I had to repair the bores of the outer half because they had little dents in them (read my new thread on how to repair pitted caliper bores). The caliper had been sleeved some time in the past and this was the first time I had taken it apart. As I had new pads in stock I used them then saved my old pads for an emergency. Pads that have worn crooked can easily be trued using a hole saw with no pilot drill. Using the hole saw in a drill press you can shave the thicker part off.

Always New Problems To Solve

After I installed my new Summit Racing polyurethane motor mounts I have had a problem with my air cleaner lid and thermostat housing hitting the underside of my Ram Air hood. I finally got clearance between my thermostat housing and hood when I modified my hood a little bit. Sitting still my air cleaner lid has about 1/32" clearance so the contact is being made only when I drive it. I would think these new motor mounts would squash a little bit as time goes on so I'm not going to loose any sleep over it.

TBTR:
You titled this thread as "With These C3's It NEVER Stops." You should have titled it "With my C3 It NEVER Stops." A root cause analysis would lead us back to you.

Finally Solved The Increased Height Problem

I finally solved the increased height problem that my new polyurethane motor mounts caused. The new mounts raised my engine up about 1/16" and that was just enough to cause me grief. I had to add a little dimple to the underside of my Ram Air hood so it wouldn't contact my Specter thermostat housing. Those thermostat housings are REAL thin at only 1/16" thick so I was afraid the continuous rubbing would wear a hole in it.

Or you could have removed your engine again and reinstalled it with the correct mounts.

I surprised he hasn't made his own,he seems so knowledgeable!!!! :BOW:BOW
NOT!!!!!!;LOL;LOL

Exactly.

I'm sure good ole Mr Science could easily adjust the motor mount height with a simple hole saw and drill press.

An interesting phenomena is engines move a bit during acceleration etc. The further the distance from the mounts, the greater the amount of movement. As a result, clearances must allow for that movement.

Or you could have removed your engine again and reinstalled it with the correct mounts.

Some prefer bend, cut, grind and mangle to doing the right thing in the first place.

Vacuum Reservoir Is Now Draining During The Night

Now my vacuum reservoir is draining off during the night. Every time I start it after sitting all night my wiper door and headlights open then close. As I have my power brake booster teed into my vacuum reservoir I don't have any power brakes until I run it at at least 1500 rpm for a few minutes. Once I reach the highway it's okay but I have poor braking for the first 1/4 mile or so. Always something it seems.

Worn Out Friction Modifier?

My 3.70's have about 75,000 miles on them and lately my positraction clutches have been popping at slow speeds. I had put 8 ounces of Sta-Lube friction modifier in it when I built the rear end so maybe the friction modifier has worn out? I have never heard of it wearing out before but as I have about 2-1/2 quarts of new 85W140 lube I'll just replace it along with the friction modifier. As my rear end has a drain plug it'll be a real easy job.

Blower Not Blowing

Now my blower quit working when the interior temperature is cold. After driving it for about 30 minutes it'll suddenly start working. I'm thinking summer dust has gotten into the switch although my A/C had been working just fine until the weather cooled. Does it ever stop?

TBTR, you mentioned in one of your other threads that you drive in very dusty conditions. Maybe you do have a dust problem, but I've never heard of this. It sounds to me like you have a bad connection, and the warming up causes the connection to reconnect. You also mentioned that you use your Vette as your daily driver. These cars are quite old and "delicate" for the daily pounding daily driver cars get, but it's your choice. I still say get a beater. In the long run, it will cost you less.

He's also said that part of the road to his house is gravel. Which won't be helping things

Wipers Won't Shut Off

And my wipers will often continue running after I turn them off which makes me think it's a switch problem. It seems as though there's always something in need of attention with these daily driver C3's.

As I understand it, Saudi Arabia is dusty and hot.

He definitely has a bad connection. Possibly in his car too.

Vacuum Reservoir Is Now Draining During The Night

My vacuum reservoir had been holding vacuum just fine until I overhauled my engine, Now it'll completely drain within 5 minutes of shutting my engine off so there is a sizable leak somewhere. Hopefully I can look into it tomorrow and find the source of the annoying leak. I have a vacuum tap on my crossover line that feeds my wiper door so I'll plug my gauge into that while plugging the headlight vacuum. The most likely place would be the rod seals on the headlight actuators because they are now about 6 years old and see daily use.

Bad Speed Control Switch?

It appears my speed control switch is going bad because I always have the two lower speeds and SOMETIMES have the high speed. I can be driving along with my blower running on the second speed and then all of a sudden the high speed starts. If it gets a bit warmer this afternoon I'll pull the switch out and take it apart to see what's going on.
