With These C3's It NEVER Stops

Is this guy for real? Sounds like the late Rodney Dangerfield. "I just don't get no respect!"

This popped up the other day on the ncrs site dating back to the 2009 period

" SmokinVette.com is a relatively new fledgling Corvette forum-type website, and there's a poster called "toobroketoretire" on their C1/C2 forum who fell for this scam last month:

eBay scam auction for a '63 SWC with only 4,300 miles. Owned by a Croatian man who passed away recently, and his 38-y/o daughter is selling it for his estate; transaction completed outside of eBay, using the "eBay Purchase Protection Plan". Required wiring $12,000.00 to her bank in Croatia, and she would absorb the shipping and brokerage costs, and "DAS Shippers" would handle the shipping and deliver it to his door.

He wired the $12K, got (fake) e-mails from "DAS Shippers" informing him of daily shipping progress for a week or so, and (surprise) he never heard anything again, and the car (surprise) never showed up on October 2nd as promised by "DAS Shippers".

Yup, there's a sucker born every minute, and none of them can spot a scam. "

No, I don't think gets any respect and now we know why he's too broke to retire;LOL

Funny thing was he believed that the car would be shipped to him to inspect to decide if he wanted it and if not he would get the $12000 back.;LOL

I Don't Believe This

I decided to make a quicky trip to my mailbox on the highway and found my battery was stone dead. I jumped it from my '82 then noticed the left rear tire was almost flat (less than 5 psi). Then I noticed it wasn't able to fast idle at 1500 rpm like it used to and then I noticed my air cleaner lid was hitting the underside of my hood. I had somehow managed to turn my interior lights on when I turned my headlights off yesterday so that explains the dead battery. My left rear tire must have a nail in it, my fast idle screw must have backed off even though it had blue LocTite on it, and the new motor mounts must be a tad thicker than my old mounts. Oh yeah, and my idle speed is fluctuating from 600 to 800 rpm for some reason. It never stops!

Will Be Needing New Rear Tires Soon

My left rear tire probably has a nail in it and if so I'll remove the nail then plug the tire. The rear tires only have about 1/8" of tread left so I'll run them the rest of their life span then replace them next summer. My front tires have over 50,000 miles on them and they'll easily go another 12,000 to 15,000 miles before they need replacing. That's the benefit of only running 24 psi of pressure.

Yeah but if you were running 30 psi like you should be, you would have 11 psi in your tire to make it to the mailbox.........

My Plan For Today

This morning I'm going to dive into these new problems and see if I can find the causes. My left rear tire probably has a nail in it but I can't imagine how my fast idle screw could have backed off to the point where I had NO fast idle. Yesterday afternoon when my engine was at full operating temperature I raised the fast idle cam all the way and it only idled at 500 rpm when it used to idle at 1500 rpm. The screw was adjusted with blue LocTite on it so I can't see how it could have moved. As far as my air cleaner lid hitting the underside of my hood I might have to resort to removing another 1/8" from the top of my intake manifold. I had removed 1/4" from the top about 5 years ago and that gave about 1/16" of clearance but these new motor mounts must be a wee bit thicker than the old mounts so now I have interference. Or I may be able to lower my air cleaner base another 1/16".

And you don't ever run 30+ psi in these big balloon tires when they're only supporting around 850 pounds. Only the '84 and later "low profile" tires use 30+ psi.

Hell quit screwing around with this niggling little issue. Just use some red Loctite and JB Weld, or better yet if your a good welder around stale fuel, used antifreeze and ATF, braked fluid saturated with moisture, just weld the damn thing in place. Problem solved.

As you quoted earlier from the NCRS forums or as a search reveals Toobroketoretire is well known in the online Corvette community.. :chuckle

Yes, I am well known in the Corvette forums because I dispel the ridiculous C2 and C3 myths that ignorant people start and then convince others that the myths are true. Which of the many C2 and C3 myths have you been led to believe?

After the search and reading the responses; that was most definitely not the impression I got... Did you really send $12K to Croatia for a 63 SWC?

Personally, I haven't been lead to believe any of your myths. Here at CAC, same as everyone else, I have access to Master Techs and others who work on vehicles all day. In addition, some of the most advanced hobbyists I've ever had the pleasure of meeting..

I don't start myths..................I dispel them and that seems to annoy the people who believe them.

I got my engine able to fast idle at 1500 rpm again and I used a 1/32" carburetor base gasket to give some hood clearance. But I didn't feel like taking my tire off and submerging it in water so I'll just keep an eye on it for a few days.

WOW!!!!! I can't believe he's actually replying to someone's questions!!!! :BDH

Yes, it is a myth that fixing a known leaking tire right away is a good idea. To dispel that myth you just keep staring at it. Perfect.

You rock dude. Keep dispelling.

TBTR (real name Steven J. Westbrook age approx. 69, res. Hoot Owl Lane, Dunlap Ca and not Saudi Arabia or Texas as per various references)

Having spent far too much time digging into your history on this site, the CF, smoking vette and other discussion boards I've found that you have served only to upset knowledgeable and respectable members of each site with your troll like ramblings and garbage. In each case you've eventually worn out your welcome and have simple moved on to another board just to repeat the same old garbage. I can find no evidence of you having dispelled a myth but on the other hand there is plenty of evidence of your having repeated inaccurate and border line dangerous information.

I look forward to the day where you move on to another board, maybe you'll find a pool of naive enough kids that you'll get the recognition and ego boost you feel you deserve. Let's hope nobody gets hurt along the way.

Please don't go away mad, just go away. :mad

Ok I stand corrected, but I will have to admit to being surprised.

Hard for me to wrap my head around this poster being real.

The topic of this thread is "the ongoing problems that occur with C3's" so please stay on topic. If you have nothing to contribute to this thread then please ignore it. The reason you haven't seen any evidence of my dispelling C3 myths is because you have been led to believe the myths are true. If members get upset over hearing the truth about things I can only pity them. And what kind of "dangerous" information have I repeated? Please give me an example. If you really want me to "go away" I will be more than happy to oblige you and then this forum will return to the totally dead forum it was before I came here.
