I am new to the forum and and I have a weird story. I bought my red 1981 about four months ago. LOVE the car. Anyway, I go to change the oil right after I get it. Now I have already checked the level and it was right at the FULL mark. I drain the oil and there was over SIX quarts that came out. The oil pan is not an aftermarket so that couldn't be it. I put five quarts in which shows just under the ADD line. The car actually runs alot better now. Is it possible that the dipstick doesn't go to the L-81? Its green just like many others that I have seen. Also do you think that the engine has been damaged because of this? I have 51,000 original miles. Any comments would be helpful.
:confused

Don't loose any sleep over it having run over full, it will probably not be a problem. If you are sure you have the right amount of oil in it now, mark the dipstick (File a notch in the edge of it) where the oil is now and keep it there. God bless, Sensei

Thanks for the tip. I'll put a notch in it and keep on going.

Possibly the wrong dipstick, or maybe at some time during the cars life the tube the dipstick slides into has been removed and when it was put back in it either it's the wrong tube, or it wasn't seated all the way back in place good. Whatever the reason, I agree with the previous advice, if you're sure you have it filled correctly and it's not reading right, mark the dipstick.
