Took my Coupe in today for an oil change and began talking to a salesperson while waiting. I asked when were they going to get their first Z06 and what would be the markup price. She stated a delivery of one sometime next month (October) and (get this) bid offers will BEGIN at $80K. She claimed that it would go for well over $100K and possibly $200K! Come on......is she smokin' the good stuff or do her statements hold water?? I've seen a dealer on Dupont Registry with an allotment for "Pick your color for $70K." I just don't see anyone paying that amount (especially in Fredericksburg, VA) when they could search the country via internet and get one at MSRP or a little over. Why would GM allow this??

It's not a matter of GM allowing it, they just sell the cars to the dealers and that's it, their hands are free of the matter. There will be people out there who want the car bad enough to pay a lot over sticker for it so the dealers aren't going to say no.

I was at a Ford dealership last week looking at a GTO they had traded in. The salesman said the Mustang GT's were selling for $5-7K over sticker with a waiting list!

Yep. You know that tagline, "Dealer may sell for less."? Well, they may also sell for more. ;LOL

For $200K, I would rather buy a C6, have it heavily modded and then spend the rest of the money on a house.:L

Also GM can't set the price by law, thats what MSRP is for.

If a dealer tried to sell a Z06 200K I would suspect it will be on the lot for a very long time. Most people that have that Kind of money laying around are probably educated in personnel finance in the first place. With your expetion of your dumb azz Hollywood types and rock stars.

And Evolution1980 claims that she was smoking some serious doob.

I can't imagine many people paying $100K for a Z06. Maaaaybe a couple with more dollars than sense, or those that have to have a specific serial number off the line. But $200K??? She was trying to bait you with some skunky stuff. For $200K, I'd also be considering a GT40!

Wow. Out of curiosity, talk to Koons Chevrolet in Tysons Corner and Sterling Chevrolet in Sterling, VA. I'm not sure if Sterling Chevrolet will get one because they're a small dealer, but I'm sure Koons will get at least one Z06. I'm curious to see what they are going to sell one for.

There's also a large Chevrolet dealer in Manassas, VA where I used to bring my ZR-1 in for service. I'd check there too. I can't remember there name at the moment.

I fully expect large markups on the initial models to hit the show room. The local dealer here was asking $10k over sticker for all C6's when they first hit the showroom. The crazy part was they were selling them when you could get them all day long at MSRP from the larger dealers through internet sales.

I can see some dealers trying to sell for $100k and many will get that because it is has lower production numbers than the C6. I think $200k is a stretch as I'd also be looking at a Ford GT for that money (provided they fixed their engine problems;)). I will check to see what our dealers here plan on charging and when they plan on seeing one. Should be interesting.

Here's the link for the dealer who has two allotments....one for $65K (just gets you a Z06) and another for $70K that allows one to pick the color. Hope the link works. If not, let me know.

Thank you - I will pass along that info to my friend who is looking to buy :m

Rob, Koons has offered to sell theirs at a "bid to buy" pricing structure - not sure about the others :confused

I think I saw some eBay ads where they had bidding for what you would pay over MSRP. :eyerole

We all knew this was going to happen. As long as there are fools willing to pay whatever the stealers ask for cars, they will continue to tack on the good 'ol "market adjustment" free profit.

Actually, that doesn't surprise me. I remember when they got one of the first 2001 Z06s in. I beleive they were looking for the "best offer over MSRP."

Wow, that's leaving themselves with an unlimited ceiling. But aren't C6 Z06 production numbers expected to be less than the C5 Z06? If so, they may keep their premiums higher for a longer period of time.

I've been following Vette prices (and buying them) for over 20 years, and it's quite fascinating, sometimes unbelieveable, what people will pay.

Spoke to Bill Stasek, the owner of Stasek Chevrolet, Wheeling, IL 60090 who said "we have 6 sold already... at MSRP". This was a week ago today at our Vette Club meeting.
