I would like to put headers and true dual exhaust on my car. my motor was rebuilt at a race shop. it has a 350 hp cam, flat top pistons and all sort of goodies done internally. it was reassembed in a stock configuration since i was doing the ncrs thing. i am ready for a change and would like the motor
to breath better. i am looking at hedman headers and pypes true duals. anyone used this set up? what do i do with all of the emmission stuff impacted by the change? heat riser? o2 sensors......... please advise

Bill

Trash the A.I.R. Don't worry about the heat riser. Keep the O2 sensor!

I did a rebuild that was probably similar to yours, perhaps going a little farther. My headers and 2.5" true duals made a more noticable performance difference than the entire rebuild.

where did you put your new o2 sensor? What do you have to do to get rid of the entire A.I.R. system? What can I get rid of? Plug? thanks for your help!

You will not regret upgrading your exhaust and installing headers.

Bill, go to search and type emissions removal. Great thread that tells you all you need to do with lots of options.

where did you put your new o2 sensor?!

I used shorty headers and put them just just after the collector, but a lot of people put them right on the header when using long tubes. I think you can even order them that way.

What do you have to do to get rid of the entire A.I.R. system? What can I get rid of? Plug? thanks for your help!

Chuck it all! Take off the pump, brackets, plumbing, everything (including the cat); no problems.

God bless, Sensei

Trash the A.I.R. ...

Remember that Chris is perhaps speaking figuratively here...:L...those parts a becoming hard to find and expensive. So definitely either save them, or sell them. I have paid up to $45 dollars just for the pump's aluminum bracket itself. The hoses for the injecting of air into the manifolds were not available a year ago, but I believe that Corvette Central has them for a bunch of pretty pennies. The check valves one can find them, but are about $18 dollars at the Chevy dealers. The air injection tube to the Cat. Converter is not available. The kits available are workable, but do not look the same. And so on...

When I had Headdman headers in my L81, I had that model that sort of hugs the engine block, and the problem with them was that it made it a PITA to do maintenance on the tranny. The shorty's could be an answer.

i have purchased my exhaust and can't decide whether to buy long tube headers with air tubes or not? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have the stock carb, manifold, computer and performance chip. i have the 350hp cam. Do i still have to use the O2 sensor? Can i mount it in the exhaust pipe right after the header? I am open to all suggestions.

With the computer and carb, you must have an O2 sensor! Put it on the long tube header just after the primary pipes come together. God bless, Sensei
