I wouldn't use the kit because of the reverse flow cooling just drain and run fresh water through until it runs clear with the engine running. Are you sure the "rust colored water" isn't the DEXCOOL coolant?

I believe 5W-30 is recommended if the outside temp is below 80 degrees or so, but since he is in San Antonio where the low is rarely below 80 degrees, 10W-30 is better.

Your condition is normal for a stock cooling system. You could go to a lower t-stat, many people do. I have not and have never had any engine problems.

Anybody have any experience with the INNOVA 3100 Code scanner? O'Reilly sells them for $130, I was thinking of picking one up. Also, does anyone know what type of scanner can read ABS error codes?
