Hello all Im new here and well...i dont even own the vet...my mother in law does.LOL...anyway.
A problem has arose of late..when she initially bought the car unknown to her it has a stock security system.now was there a remote device to activate or deactivate it or no.....bet you know why im asking.
LOL yes thats right it sits in her driveway and hinks alot on its own and do to it being the type it is ( security system) it wont let the car start.So...device yes or no...and possible tips on if alarm goes off how to kill it or ...do I need to recommend a bypass device?
Ty for any help.

There was no remote for the factory security system.

That confuses me. Could you please elaborate? :CAC

ok ty that solves one part of the issue
now...to further quest for the rest ...ty

Use the key in the door to deactivate the alarm...their is also a fuse behind the information center

Really appreciate the help guys....tHANK YOU VERY MUCH ..GOOD CREW HERE...i MAY HAVE TO GET A VETTE NOW...LOL

A quirk on my 84 is that I must unlock the passenger door firsT, before unlocking the driver door. Dunno what's up with that but it works.....

I don't think that alarm stops the car from running....

I KNOW mine doesn't (perhaps the last owner disconnected the feature) but if I was betting I would say thats an aftermarket alarm on that car.

First it should not be going off on its own. It'll only go off when the door is unlocked and opened from the inside when locked. If its going off on its own that pbly means theres a shock sensor (aftermarket)

If you set the alarm and smack the car will it go off?

From the '84 Owner's Manual

Theft Deterrent System
p. 2-37 The system alarm pulses the horns at 50 cycles/minute. At the same time, the starter interrupt relay is energized which disables the starter solenoid circuit (sic) which will remain energized until the system is properly disarmed.

p. 1-3 Locking the doors from the outside will not arm the (TD) system. The doors must be locked with the optional power door lock switch or BOTH manual door lock levers. Unlocking the door with the oval-head key disarms the system.

And.....WELCOME, Helpful.
