Just got some reading material for TPIS and came to this conclusion. Headers $750, two cats $440, starter blanket $40, header wrap $50. This totals $1280 as per TPIS reading it is worth 2 tenths of a second in the 1/4 mile. ZZ9 cam $375, as per TPIS this is worth 8 tenths of a second in the 1/4 mile. Am I missing something or is this a no brainer???????

Check out Comp Cams 1.6 roller rockers. Good for about 15hp +/-
Also checkout highflow cats at Jegs. about 100 bucks each.

I like the TPIS shocks, but as to their speed equipment it all seems to be a bottomless pit of what you can add, tweak etc. and the cost gets huge fast. One thing that I have found with all these aftermarket suppliers is that once you change or "improve" one thing, be it suspension or engine, you've changed something else that you didn't expect. It can lead to some nasty surprises and big dissapointment.

get coated headers. U need the CATS?

Umm, skip this, or I have one for you.

header wrap $50
not needed with coated headers

Will that be okay with the stock ECM? If not, add programming costs or a proper chip, at a minimum.

Would there be much sense running the restrictive factory cats ???? Also you would need a muffler shop to adapt them to the headers. What do you think about just the cam ??? It seems to make dollar sense, an eprom from TPIS runs about $400 for a custom job, but I don't know if you would need it right away.

I am not so sure the factory cats are that restrictive.
The cam does seem to make $$ sense, but I would certainly ask TPIS all of these questions. I found their people to be fairly helpful and honest.

Even with the ZZ cam, the stock heads and intake will kill it.

You don't need to adapt anything, well at least not for my car. The headers come with a 3 ID front Y pipe that will bolt up to your main cat, then just use the rear Y pipe with the mufflers you have. All that other stuff like the heat blanket is not needed.

Edmond, get a TPIS catalogue that is how they run it and knock off 8 tenths of a second in the 1/4 mile.

You really trust their opinion on their product? Of course they'll say that to sell more cams.

I'm not saying it's a bad cam, a lot of guys here use the ZZ cams. But 8/10th's of a second is a big cut.

throw that book out the window to start with....

a cam alone will NOT give you 80 rwhp which is about 100 fly wheel horsepower. you will need FULL bolt on's, headwork, and a chip along with the cam you will see 80+ rwhp easily if the setup is matched.

just throwing this part and that part on will not give you the recommended super system quote by these manufacturers.

long tube headers will be your primary horsepower gainer. the cam won't do squat on stock exhaust. go with out cats or with race cats and long tubes and other bolt on's like K&N, TB Bypass, ect then the cam. stock heads should flow good enough for a ZZ9 cam. with FULL bolt on's and a cam you could see 80 rwhp.

shop around.... i'd get the headers from TPiS and a mini ram but thats about it. rest of the stuff can be found in Jegs or Summit for 1/3 of the cost.

380 dollars for a set of roller rockers ;LOL

That's what I said!:L

$380 for RR is abolutely highway robbery. Maybe new studs and springs come with it?:L

THERE IS ONE PLACE TO ALWAYS START!!!

The track!!! Never trust the vendors claims, spend an afternnon at the local drag strip. Even if you have to drive a few hundread miles to one, it will be worth it. Posted dyno numbers and vendor claims are often very optomistic.

Some items dont make extra dyno numbers but show small improvements in ets (Like some air intake systems).

Ask other Vette drivers with similar cars that run good times what they did, its rare that some one will not want to chat about their build up. You could see what really produces results before you spend any dough and turn any wrenches!

your at the right place to start :CAC

that don't always work though.... if he adds mods in the summer the car most likely wont be much faster. race spring and fall or in the dead of summer and hot on the water temp to really test the mods so it's more controlled but this is a different subject all together :D

That might not always be the best thing. For me the biggest thing is feeling more power. If I can feel the car get faster with mods I do, I am a happy guy. The numbers don't really matter much to me, well maybe that is because I drive a slow car :L.

Headers and a good tune. Lots of folks like the TPIS headers, I am not familiar with them, but the Hookers are a little less spendy and a good alterhnative :w
