Mr. Welburn spoke about the future of Chevrolet design on the weekly Autoline Detroit TV series. Welburn said there will be increasing design synergy across Chevy models, with a common design theme becoming obvious in the coming years.

When host John McElroy pointed out that the gold bow-tie emblem doesn't appear prominently on the Corvette, Welburn responded by saying this is likely to change. "The gold bowtie will be there," he said. "There is a strong siganture grille that we are developing for all Chevys," Welburn explained. "We will depart a bit in the grille area […] but that bowtie will be there on every Chevy."

Traditionally, GM has refrained from putting the Chevy logo on the Corvette because the brand is typically associated with more economical vehicles. GM may now wish to associate the Corvette more closely with Chevy in an effort to improve consumer perception of the brand.

I think that approach will backfire on GM. Many people (myself included) feel that the current chevy lineup is "odd" looking. If it weren't for the Corvette, I wouldn't even consider a Chevrolet. Instead of raising the esteem of the line as a whole, I think it will have the opposite effect...to lower the percieved value and quality of the Corvette.

The bow tie has been part of the Corvette crossed flags emblem since 1953. Why fix what isn't broken? :crazy

This prominent bowtie thing is catching on....

Absolutely true. ...And it looks silly, goofy, and worse.

What will they think of next ? The little GM symbol on the new ones, a Chevy logo.. Do buyers not know who makes their Corvette?? :crazy

It's on every piece of documentation: GM Chevrolet Corvette, it has stickers, labels, heck parts labelled with GM or Chevy.. I give up.. ;shrug :(

It does nothing for me. ;)
nothing

I couldn't have said it better. With todays stock market report G M has a lot bigger problems to work on.Fire the guy who came up with this one and save $150,000 a year would be a start.

I'm with 6shooter (Dwayne). It IS already there. Anyone into the marque knows the Corvette is a Chevrolet product. I am a fan of the bowtie, but it need not be any more prominent on the Corvette than it already is.

That photoshop version is hideous. :ugh

PLEASE don't do that to this wonderful car.

One thing is sure, it will open a new aftermarket for grills without the bow tie.

my .02

If GM Insisssssts on using the bowtie, just add it to the UGLY, Hideous Chrysler looking tag of Excellence they've started putting on the side by the rear wheels :( :puke

I'll repost what I said in the original thread:

Corvette has always been its own entity as far as emblems go. I don't think this will bring up people's perception of Chevy at all....and only bring down Corvette's.

If it was veeeery subtle.....like embossed somehwere in the paint or paneling, so it was all the same color......maybe.... But definitely no gold badging.

The Chevy emblem looks great on a Silverado.........not a Corvette.

I think the current Corvett emblem they are using is just fine. The bow tie will really cheapen the look of the car.

I don't see what the big deal is! As long as it doesn't take half the hood.

If it helps with sales, then it adds R&D money to Corvette...and it helps us in the end. It also solidifies the Corvette making so important, they can't help but continue funding whatever it takes to make it the best. AND remember, just because a model has been around forever, doesn't mean it's protected.

There's got to be a little give and take.

We bought an HHR in July of this year and the bowtie looks fine on it but I do believe that the Corvette should keep its own logo and put the bowtie on the "regular" vehicles. Corvettes have always been "special" and they should stay that way.

Thanks,

Donna
