Well, bit the bullet today on some good performance stuff. Ordered a set of equal length Hooker ceramic coated headers with stage 8 locking bolts, MSD Billet tach drive distributer and 6AL ignition. Should be able to squeeze a few extra horses out of the old girl with this setup.

It should help that big bad 750 Speed Demon I have on top breath a bit better and quit bogging as much!

Sounds great. What is the rest of your exhaust system made up of?

Tom

Nothing like seeing those boxes come rolling off the UPS truck!

Sounds like a great plan. I guess the TPI is on the back burner for now.

Keep us posted!

I have 40 series FlowMasters out back and will be replacing all the pipe between the headers and the mufflers.

The TPI is WAY on the back burner. Its probably a year off or so now. If the Demon keeps working as well as it has, I may not do the TPI. However, I sure could use the extra milage!

Hijinx, how do you like the 40 series flowmasters? I'm looking to change my mufflers. Dont know whats on mine now, but at certain rpm it gets pretty load-inside the car.

I really like the FlowMasters. They are pretty loud around town, very throaty. On the highway at 60 to 80, I dont think they are bad at all. But that's relative. I like loud pipes.

Hey, a question. One reason I am doing all this is to get ready for dropping in a hefty HP stroker or ZZ style motor later on. You guys think I should be looking for an electric fuel pump to add to this setup? Its virtually the only thing that hangs on the block thats not been, or about to be redone. I have never used them in the past. Thoughts?

I hope someone can answer that, I like the electric on my 84, but it was made that way. I also like the reg. one on my 71, but it came that way. I dont really know the advantages of one over the other, but I'm sure someone will. It probably has plus and minus's like everything else

Yea, this one has always stumped me. What most builders tell me is that all you need is a constant 7 psi to the carb. Mechanical or electric, they both get the job done. Now, racing is a bit different. High HP engines need electric to maintain a higher flow rate. That I understand. I think that most people go to them to clean things up a bit. I sure could use some opinions on this issue.

I don't care for an electric pump unless you are running EFI, or a freaky gas hound that needs it like yesterday delivered to the carb. Reason, well, they are noisy, not as dependable, and require pulling amps off a usually already taxed system.

For a carb, I think best to go with a good quality matching mechanical pump and that is one last thing to worry about on a long stretch of road in the middle of nowhere.

Good point Chris. That seems to be the consensus among most good engine builders as well. Thanks for the input. Just needed a sanity test.

Rod,
i am running an Edelbrock mechanical fuel pump with my set up. it is the high flow (140gph) and high pressure (14psi) unit. i also installed a Holley fuel pressure regulator and guage right on the fuel inlet rail and set it at 6 psi. it works great for feeding 600hp. Chris is right on with the complaints about electrical pumps. hope this helps, Brian

Hey, any ideas on how I tell my wife I spent all that money this close to Christmas?

You looked at the wrong calendar, got confused, and thought it was almost Christmas?.......
