HELP: C3 tire choice - Yokohama VS. Dunlop

I want to get a new set of tires for my 79 L-82.
I have the factory wheels and have narrowed my selection to 2 brands.

Yokohama Avid S/T: 235/60's up front - 255/60's in back or
Dunlop GT Qualifier T: 225/50's up front - 255/60's in back.

$$$ is not an issue.

Which would you pick and why?

I dont think 255's up front make sense.
At least for my driving habits

The C3 looks best with wide meats all around. BFG's are the best bang for the buck. Good all around tire. This is my opinion.

225/70 R15 Michelin X-1's (Z-rated) beats BFG's in my opinion. Good stick and good looks.

I have 245/60/15 GT Qualifiers on my 75. I don't have any real complants with them but I just drive around normally. I don't know how they would stack up against the yohos.

This is what I dont understand... there are people that vote for "other" but dont suggest what the "other" brand is.

2X5/70's are too tall.
I am having clearance problems with 215/70's up front, so I need a lower profile (50+/-)
My tires will rub my front fenders under normal driving conditions.

Although my situation is rather unique, (C2...not C3; non-stock fenders) I chose Dunlops based on specs and owner reviews, after a few weeks of research, not to mention that I wanted to stay with the 15" diameter.

I cannot speak from personal driving experience yet, because the project is still not completed.

265-50x15 front (8" rims)
295-50x15 rear (10" rims)

What did you do to your trailing arms, u joints, wheel bearings to accomodate a 295/50 in back?

What is the biggest tire size I can go on the stock 8' in back?

Im glad someone else has taken the time to research different tire brands. Thats why Im tossed between the yokos and the dunlops.

OOH... now that I looked at your site maybe Ill go with the 225/50's up front and the 265/50's in back.

Where did you pick up your tires... how much?

That spec sheet is weird.
I have 215/70's up front now and the sheet says thats for a 6.5' wide wheel.

Im not sure if that is minimum or maximum tire width.

On the spec-sheet it says that the 265/50's are for a wheel width of 8.5' not 8's.

Did you have any fitment issues?

Yes.....identical rally wheel design. Using 1969 trim rings and 1967 center caps on front and rear.

Offset trailing arms. The optional (very thick) Vette Brakes rear anti-sway bar is pretty close to the tires.

The numbers in the spec sheet are the suggested rim widths. You can deviate up or down "slightly".

No problems mounting tires and they appear correct...in other words they don't look too big or too small for the wheels.

What are all the tire size's that can be used with the factory 15x8 rims? If have GR60-15 on now...I know there old

Just before Christmas I put brand new skippys on our town car ... Yokohama Avid Touring 225-60 16 -- 97S. This tire has a high customer satisfaction rating & an 80K mile warranty. Nearly 10K later the ride, traction & wear is great ... very good in lotsa recent rain ... they also did real good in a relatively (for SC) heavy snow! I did a lotta pricing & price-matching ... finally got my local Sears to order them at $62 each delivered ... cheap! After Sears fouled up the installation scheduling ... I ended up with free mounting, free lifetime balance & rotation. This tire is well made ... some evidence of that is shown by the minimal weight required to balance it. This don't answer the C3 question ... but a solid reference for a very similar yokohama. BTW, I think they make em in Kalifornia ... not certain though.
