The only documentation I have from the guy who rebuilt my 327 states that I have "Forged TRW Fuel Injected Pistons"

WTF?

Does anyone have any idea of the possible part numbers or can generally decribe what I have? For example, are these flat tops?

Thanks in advance.

Joe - according to colvin's book - chevrolet by the numbers -- the stock piston for a 1965 327 chevelle 350 hp, or the corvette 365 or 375 hp was a domed head only used on the high perf engines. It was impact extruded aluminum alloy. The skirt type was a slipper (?). The piston pin was a pressed fit. the weight was 20.40 oz. send me your fax number and i will fax you what is in the book including a top and side view. Funny this info didnt appear to be in his corvette by the numbers book.

hey john!

no need to fax it, i think you gave me what i need to know...i have a domed piston...i was thinking about going to 1.6 ratio rockers so i think i'll lie down till it passes

Dome height is .125". Considered 11:1 compression ratio. Speed Pro part #2166.

Many thanks guys!:beer

I have about 9.4:1 CR with my 72cc heads.

OK, so can you advise me about the potential to go with 1.6 ratio rockers? What can I check to ensure that there is no interference? I have no idea if the block was ever decked but I do have my suspicions since the intake does not sit evenly on the heads - it opens at the bottom of the intake runner and I was pulling in oil from the lifter valley. It's easier to suspect the block than the heads since they are fairly new Darts.

Your thoughts are welcome.

How about This...........Step One... Pull that motor and bag it. Put it in the corner of the gee-rage..and forget it.

..........Step Two...Open up any catalog and pick yourself out a nice SB Crate Motor anywhere from the Ram Jet 350 to a 450HP Hi Rever... and be done with worrying about adding this and that to your Lop Sided 40 Plus Year Old Motor..;)

I know you're right but I'm kinda' using this engine to sharpen up my skills as long as I don't do anything stupid. Or at least anything TOO stupid.

If I pull that engine, in goes a blown HO 454. Screw these small block sewing machines.

If I had your money, I would go for the big rat. But I don't. Besides, although I completely agree that there is no substitute for cubes but I really like the smallest displacement engine I can live with. If it was reasonable to build a 396, I would stick with that. I'm not a fan of strokers, I like "square engines" that I can really wind up when I need to. OK, OK, MAYBE a 502 HO. I also tend to favor iron heads for the street. The real reason why I went with the zz454 aluminum heads was because they are oval ports. With a blower, the runners will be filled all the time so I could care less if they are square ports. I'd need a blower cam and then......

Damn, I'm talking myself into a new engine. Think I'll lie down till this passes. If I buy another bb crate motor, I'm charging it to the CAC. I NEVER used to think like this before I logged on here;squint::grouphug:

Two other clearance issues to consider for 1.6:1 rockers:

1. Dunno what the Dart heads have for pushrod holes, but stock-type heads with the "D"-slots usually have to have the bottom of the slots machined for pushrod clearance (the pushrod end is closer to the rocker stud on a 1.6 rocker than it is on a 1.5 rocker).

2. Check for valve spring coil bind and retainer-to-valve guide (or PC stem seals if you have them) clearance with the added .030"-.040" lift.

For the hassle, 1.6:1 rockers don't give you much benefit - HOT ROD or CAR CRAFT did an A-to-B dyno comparison on the same engine with 1.5 vs. 1.6 rockers about a year ago (with six different camshafts also), and found no more than six horsepower difference. Jeg's and Summit love them, though ;)

Now, now. Any money that I might have made is tied up in the long term WD40 futures market. Hedging contracts for WD40 is a very stressful way of making a living. The margin calls are killing me. :eyerole
