Just a Question on Charcoal Canisters

Ok the other while reading posts I came across one that someone was asking where there Charcoal canister was located. While I read on I kept thinking I had never seen one on my 1991 Convertible. So I go to where it should be. the left side in front of the Tire. Not there, I looked on the right side in front of the tire. not there. So I looked in the Haynes Manual and it say it should be there and that it was not until 1992 that is was moved to the rear of the vehicle. Im lost, the car has a charcoal canister purge solenoid. Which the books say didn't come until 1992. one hose goes to the Throttle body and the other lead off to the right rear behind the front wheel and back. I looked under the rear of the car but see no place that one could be. Anyone want to point me to where it is and tell me why the car that is an L98 1991 has things on it that aren't there until 1992. Or is it just that Haynes Auto manual are not right.

Much wrong info in Haynes manuals. If you are serious buy the Factory service manual .
My '87 and '90 have front mount canisters and purge solenoids.
Sounds to me like someone has removed the canister and just hooked up the tank purge line direct to the TB through the solenoid

Even with the new front bumper that came in 91 I am not aware if any differences in that area that would prevent mounting the canister like it was on all the previous C4's.
Headlamp is still the same as on earlier cars ( same hood )

The evap canisters are in the back on a late C4. Look behind the inner fender on the passenger side.

Should have a round hollow binder, so you can hang it in the 'library'.
Read a page, tear, wipe, flush, repeat if necessary.
For those with the tender hindquarters ( :booty ), an additional step might be warranted: insert 'krinkle', between 'tear', and 'wipe'.

Boy, if I have ever heard the truth about Haynes Manuals, that is it. Not to digress, but I love guys that got their shiny new Haynes Manual and they think thing they can fix anything on their car, diagnosis, R&R, and everything.

First thing I bought when I got my car 10 yrs ago.
Apon reading realised I knew more about the car than what book said and I had only owned it for a month

Really? I find in many ways they are BETTER than the FSM since they have pictures which was a great educational tool to a kid who at time didnt work on cars much. This was also pre internet and I couldnt come running to some website to ask basic questions. The troubleflow guides are still also helpful when trying to work your head around a problem. Good for when thinking in the "library"! BTW, Chilton are the ones that REALLY suck!

When I bought mine it had basicly only the L83 and L98 info and many of the pics were of my 84 and interior body style. I did notice as mine got dirty and thumbworn and I looked to replace it the new ones had so many different model year changes in it it was worthless to me.
