TPiS Big Mouth intake, plenum, siamesed SLP runners all ported and polished ready for 52 mm TB including larger fuel rails for 400 bucks. is this a good deal? a friend of mine that has a 86 vette pulled this off of his and put a 383 stroker motor with a mini ram and asked me if i was interested.

from what i've seen the intake from TPiS is 425 alone. will this work good with one of these cams?

ZZ-409 Hyd Roller:

Adv. duration 287/287, duration @.050 226/226, Lift .520/.520. 112 LSA.

ZZ-9X Hyd Roller:

duration @.050 225/240, Lift .525/.558 on a 112 LSA. ZZ-X Hyd Roller:

Adv duration 290/290, duration @.050 239/239, Lift .558/.558, on a 112LSA.

*This cam uses #700-132 springs. All lift numbers shown are with a 1.5 rocker. To get lift number with 1.6 rocker, divide lift number by 1.5, then multiply by 1.6. Call to discuss, 952-448-6021

Sounds like a deal to me, although I dont think either of those cams is optimal for it. ZZ-409 might work, but my gut says the intake duration is so big that the TPI will kill it off before it makes peak power.

ZZ9X is too big.

Sounds like a deal, if they're in good shape. I paid about $700, shipped, for my Accel SuperRam with runners and gaskets, non-ported, but unused.

Doesn't TPIS recommend the "normal" ZZ-9 cam (not 9x?) for minor-modded engines?

Also - my David Koldos 52mm TB arrived today. Looks very nice and the butterfly operates VERY smoothly. Gaskets were included.

yeah they are in good shape from what i am told. but a good bead blasting will put a nice shine back on them if need be :D

thats what i'm been hearing. i was told that TPI setups like split-duration cams (the exhaust side usually is bigger) i'm just worried that when i do the cam if i don't go with one i can "Grow" into that it won't achieve my later goals. i figure i could buy this intake run it for a year then do a full rebuild and go with a mini ram setup. i'm still not sure yet. just putting together a plan and buying some parts to horde for my winter project. i was just going to go with the cam swap and be done with it but when i ran into Tim he told me he still had the intake and it's not going anywhere so i'm gonna buy it. this is the same intake i was gonna buy last year but money was tight and still is but oh well can't keep procrastinating. tired of imports hanging on my doors :D

i still got some research to do on cams to find a good match.

BTW here is the specs on the ZZ9 cam
ZZ-9 HydraulicRoller:

Intake Exhaust Advertised duration 282 287
Duration at .050 212 226
Gross lift .483 .520
Lobe separation 112

this and the ZZ409 cam is petty close on the grinds. when i get more close to this i might have to call TPiS for alittle more info.

Rich how much did your 52 TB cost and did you have to send your old one back? do you still got contact info?

I have the ZZ9 with a miniram on my 355 and I am pretty happy with it. I also have a ZZ409 sitting on a shelf I was goign to install inplace of my ZZ9 but due to some unplanned events the project is on hold indefinitely.

I was told by TPiS that I would only see a 1-2 mph difference in cams in the 1/4 mile. I am also running 1.6 intake and 1.5 exhaust rockers so the ZZ9 is closer to the ZZ409 for lift, but still a little short on intake duration..

My best 1/4 time is 12.69@108.98 but I have seen as much as 110mph trap speeds.. My car should have a better ET but I don't beat on it enough when I run it.

thats cool Jeff. i will definetly hit you up on that chip when i get this all done. does your car have a nice cam lope at idle?

i'm going to go with 1.5 roller rockers so i can keep the stock valve covers. which cam would you think would be best?

cams are not grade-school dungarees

I recall those xtra-length blue jeans that my folks always got for me so that I could "grow into them." If and when (repeat if) I grew into them I sure as heck didn't want em anymore. We saved bucks doing it that way. Although plenty of my classmates were in same boat, I wasn't too crazy about em ... when new or later. I think the same might apply to cam profiles. My 2 cents.

Hey, Mic, you can just take a Dremel tool to the drip tabs on your stock rocker covers (I can show you what I did on mine) to make clearance for the 1.6's.

Mic,

I would go with the ZZ9 for the SLP runners and Base.. then if you move to a miniram it will still work well.. if you ever build a stroker, then get a new cam. With the TPI and such, you don't want a cam to grow into since you will not enjoy it when the motor is not set-up to handle it.

gotcha. just didn't want to buy a cam i'd only be upgrading in a year.
