I removed the hood, disconnected all the bolts, wire, tubes, hoses, belts and little thingies; pulled the radiator and blocked the transmission. This ugly looking beast under the hood is now ready to come to poppa!:D Now I roll the engine hoist up to this soon to be rebuilt beauty contest loser and what do I find???? The arm is to short to reach the center of the engine leveler.:ugh Its not even close. It must be sort by at least 6" - 8" and that is with the hoist slammed tight against the nose of the car and fully extended. So I slid around the side and tried it again, tires in the way and won't let me get in line.:r

So before I put this puppy up on a jack stand, pull the wheel and start tugging away...what have the rest of you done? I could build a new extension on the hoist that extends another foot but I don't want to over stress the arm.:confused

I don't have my own hoist, but I've rented 2 recently: one a tow behind unit and one that came apart.

The tow behind one had a very short boom that didn't quite reach the center with the lift pushed up against the front nose.

The come apart one easily reached (It had a much longer boom on it).

Fuelie and I dropped mine in sideways with the car supported on stands.

Pull the front wheel off whichever side you're attacking from, slide the hoist in from that side, and swing that puppy up and over the fender, not the front end.

Yup, I do it exactly the same way - works great! :)

Great Ideas guys! I will be out there after church flanking the old gal from the port side. Pics to follow.

Rule number One. Always buy a house with a basement garage so you can use the "I" beam. :D

No basements in Florida, we call them indoor swimming pools. Not a good place for a car, even a fiberglass one!:L

Or maybe a split level. :w

Boy what bad timing I was just vacationing in clearwater for a while,(board as heck) me and my son could have came down to lend a hand. He just loves crossing that skyway bridge.

My only advice is,if its an original motor you should make it clear to the engine builder NOT to deck the block!

Unfortunately it is not the original motor. It is a 327, but from a '69 Camaro. Heads and block match. I am going to rebuild it and run it for a while. Then sell it to a Camaro fan lookiing to go factory.

It would have been good to meet you, sorry we missed. If you are this way again give me a hollar.

Barry No I did not drive.I used to drive all of the time but since the kids have become old enought to voice there opinons and join in on family votes. I have always been out voted on driving. So we now fly

And Al I will be in Clear water again for about 10 days in January of 2006 for the NCRS show in old town,And some other buisness clearwater.I hope you stay in touch. I could of used something to do.I never made it to tarpon springs this trip.

Speek to you soon and good luck with your project.

As for camaros I wished I would have been smart enough to grab a couple of them when the prices were affourdable.

There prices are going as crazy as the midyear vettes have been over the last 2 years

PS as for the basements in florida, I was speaking to a realator about a home I was interested in purchasing. While we were doing the walk thru of the house I asked how do you get in to the basement. And it was as if he was never asked the question in his life. He then took the time to explain that Florida Home do Not have basements.

I will stay in touch. So next time you plan a trip drop me a line. I will try to make the show in Jan. Its about an hour and a half ride from my house.

The realtors have no sence of humor. Actually there are two basements I know of in Sarasota. One is at the Ca'd Zan, the John & Mable Ringling home which is now a museum and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Strangely enought hey are both on the water.

Can this be done with the trans attached?

Al: I am a few months ahead of you. I found a great machine shop in Tampa. Clean and organized shop. Honest if you can believe it. He talked me out of some machine work. Also have a great tranny guy. He has been working on my M-21's and the automatics for my company vehicles for years. Let me know if I can be of any help. Jerry
