LT4 coupe
just bought the car about 3 - 4 weeks ago. its a 93' 40th anniversary coupe (ruby red/ruby red) with the SD LT1 and ZF 6speed w 3.45s out back. ive owned nothing but auto cars since this one, and i can say driving a manual trans is AWESOME! however, since im new to the stick thing, im not very good at launching the car. in fact, this track outing was the very first time i tried racing from a dead stop. probably not a good thing when searching for low E/T, but i dont think i did too bad for my first time out in a manual trans car.

anyway, most of my runs were in the mid - low 14s due to my spinning tires (60fts ranged from 2.3 to 2.4... ugh!). but on my second run, i somehow managed to hook up and posted my best run of the night. heres the breakdown of the timeslip:

60ft - 2.08
330 - 5.85
1/8 - 9.00
mph - 79.26
1000 - 11.65
1/4 - 13.89
mph - 101.51

the car was cooled between passes to about 140/150*. i iced the intake between runs also, and left the line at about 2000 rpms. had about 35psi in the front tires and lowered the rears to about 20psi.

i definately think i could improve my times by just practicing my launches and shifting a bit. possibly mid - low 13s just from improved driver skill. what do you guys think? any tips for launching?

Based on what you did in your 89 A4

"1989 Corvette coupe (L98 auto, 3.07s)
- stock motor w minor boltons
Best E/T - 13.16
Best mph - 103.79
Best 60ft - 1.76"

It looks like you have what it takes once you get a little more stick time in. Very nice run on the A4.

thanks! the 13.1s were on DRs though... if i had a set on the LT1 Vette im sure my times would have been closer to what the 89 is running.

all in all i didnt think my times were all that bad considering that night was the first time i had ever launched the car from a stop and ive only been driving stick for about 4 weeks now. the car just clicked 70k, and i believe all the components are original. with a complete tune up and servicing, as well as some improved driving skills, i think i can get the car into the low 13s as it sits 100% stock

nice!

maybe we can hook up one sunday at the track. TnT starts this sunday. i was up your way last sunday for some bracket racing. 1st round i dialed in a 13.32 and ran a 13.34 but red light by .012. i was sooo pi$$ed! 3 runs in a row i hit below .050 or better light. :(

the guys that i've talked to say about 3000 rpm on the launch. play with it she'll get out of the hole.

oh yeah 2 weeks at capitol i hit a 13.27 and a 1.815 60' time to back up the 13.26 with a 1.825 60' i ran a week ealier. just got the TPiS long tubed headers friday. hopefully installing right after thanksgiving. gonna put the AFPR in at the same time then get it dyno tuned. use the info to send off for a chip from Jeff :). i'm hoping easy 12.8's still on a stock TPI/trans/stall/ gears.

got the ZZ409 cam also but not putting it in till i hit the elusive 12's on the stock motor :)

Tony,

you need to come down before winter time. been running with a bunch of LS1 F-Bods in the area. it's alot of fun :)

hey Mic, whats up? thought you had fallen off the face of the earth!

the 40th is a blast to drive, the 6speed is so much fun! its really in great shape... now i just have to tune her and itll be running right with the 89'

speaking of which, my TPI Vette is barely running. the bog i was experiencing at the track that one night has gotten so bad now i cant drive the car! it happens all the time now, not just when launching. ive tried just about everything to fix it (new ECM, new ignition module, new TPS, new coolant temp sensor) and the only things left are to replace the injectors and fuel pump. ive gone through 3 stock pumps in the last year... looks like ill have to upgrade

are you racing at cecil on Sundays? or is that Capital? i went down to Cecil last Fri, and ill probably be going back this Fri (last friday night of the 2003 season). after that its only Saturdays until they close in mid Dec... but i cant afford to take a Sat morning off from work. its all overtime for me then, and i just cant have that cut from my paycheck!
