Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

sort of stumble at idle

Man, sorry for all your troubles.....I was really hoping that the new ECM would fix you up. At least you have codes to chase.........I guess that's a good things. I know how you feel. I am pretty sure that you will figure it out.
:boogie:boogie:boogieNow,The Spooky Thing!!:boogie:boogie:boogieThe more I mess with it the more I'm leaning toward the New Opti as having a problem!!!!!:D:D:D

I think I found it!!! :D:D:D
Update on the morning News!!:thumb
I'm going to bed!!:W:W:W

I thought the plan to fill the interior with Military C-4 explosive was deemed too hazardous! :boogie :boogie :boogie

WHILE YOU ARE AT IT, PLEASE SAVE THE :w

I am going to guess the main electrical harness to the Opti has some issues. I will not go into its personal problems! :boogie

Do I win anything?

No Gregory,But it was a main harness issue and something we talked about on the phone!!:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle I even checked it again after we talked, and didn't find anything!!:L:L:L I'd already put the Fertilizer in the car and was Looking for my Cherry Bombs,:boogie:boogie:boogie and ran across the Ground Eyelets from the back of the engine, there were 3 and I put back 3,BUT it was plain to me after closer inspection of them that 1 had 2 wires going to it originally!!So I took off the emission hoses and started digging around behind the engine,Sure enough I found a single Black W/W stripe wire hiding on top the bell housing!!!:hb:hb:hb
Crimped and soldered a new eye in it and fished it back down there and hooked it up to that hard to get to (@%$@^%*^&) stud on the back of the block!! :D:D:D

And now the Vette runs like a .................?

The suspense is killing me!

Dang Junk, how did that thing come loose? It's not like there is activity back there to pull on it.....do you think it was just vibration? Any way I'm glad that you found it.

I caused it!!:boogie:boogie:boogieWhen I went to clean the grounds on the back of the engine the nut was too tight on the stud, the whole stud came out of the bell housing!!I couldn't really see how many wires were on it,I was going by there were 3 eyes on the stud (1 ground strap,2 others)when it came out,and when I went up to the top side and pulled the ground pigtail up to replace the eyes there were 2 wires in it,If I'd paid more attention to the old eyes,I would have seen that 1 of them had,had 2 wires to 1 eye!! I didn't see the 3rd wire it was by itself not run in the pigtail!!:thumbI just missed it!:D:D:D

So, you have taken the Vette for a test drive? Engine runs strong? No MIL lit? No codes set?

We need a full report. We will all be standing by.

WHILE YOU ARE TEST DRIVING THIS VETTE, COULD YOU PLEASE SAVE THE :w?

I agree, we are all waiting with crossed fingers to hear how she runs.

Tom, speaking of crossed fingers! How close is yours to being finished? I believe this thread was started by you! :L

A long, long time ago.......

SAVE THE GOSH DARN :w

I got the new opti to the mechanic Thursday, and he told me that he would start on it Monday. I told him that I wanted him to take his time. He said that he was going to check and see if he can figure out where the oil leak is coming from while he is at it. So hopefully we'll get that fixed as well.

My 89 coupe also had a stumble at idle with the brake depressed it turns out my brake booster was leaking (also note the brake pedal was very hard to press and the car did not stop as well as normal)

Just got back from a very Spirited run to Lake Lure,It ran better than it ever has!!:thumbPopped 1 code at first,MAP sensor circuit low, only did it 1 time and that was at very first of a 35 mile Rocket Ride through the Hickory Nut Gorge and back!!;shrugOther than that,It runs like a Bat out'ta Hell!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

I guess I'll know for sure in a day or two!!

Miss Firing,Back Firing and Blowing Black Smoke!!:mad:mad:mad

Same issue another idea

I also have a stumble well more of a backfire but it does not happen until the engine gets to 200F until then it runs like a you know what. One thing I have been looking at in the FSM is the water temperature sensor on the water pump and how it talks to the ECM.

The next thing I have discovered is that if I Disconnect the TPS with the water temp below 200 F and blip the throttle I can duplicate the same backfire that I get after 200F I am going to have to find a way to test the tps the way I am doing it now says I have 5 volts at idle and it drops off as I open the throttle. Can someone point me in the right direction to test the tps.:upthumbs

After getting up at 2:30 this morning and checking things out,I think I may have stumbled on to something!! Stay Tuned!!:boogie:boogie:boogie

OK! I am changing my vote to the WRENCH behind the diagnosis! :boogie:boogie:boogie

Kinda like the NUT behind the wheel!
:boogie:boogie:boogie

I wish you luck, my friend!

SAVE THE :w

Maybe you need to run down Bat Cave Rd so the Vette will run like a bat out of heck! :rotfl

I will be on the road for a little while, so you can always update me via the old technology of a telephone! ;LOL

I HOPE YOU BEEN TRYING TO SAVE THE :w
