Vette struck by lightning

I got to this thread very late in the game. First, I'm so glad you survived the incident with out harm. You are a lucky man. I could have added some input about C&O Motors. They are about 8th on my list if my Z06 needs service. The second best Corvette mechanic in this area works for Turnpike Chevy, just across the river from C&O. The best around here works for an independent service facility about 20 miles from C&O and I have considered him a friend for about 20 years. Most of the "mechanics" in the dealer shops are more like parts replacers. My friend sounds a lot like GMJunkie, or vice versa. I've read this thread with great interest since it started in my home state. I admire your patience and I hope you get some good driving time in before the weather starts to suck.
GMJunkie - my hat is off to you for your thorough approach, dedication and obvious fairness to a fellow owner. You really sound like my kinda guy and I wish all Corvette owners could find a resource as talented as you appear to be.

I'm still fairly new to WV, can you by chance point me in the direction of a few good driving roads?

On Saturday while driving home from work and then on my way to Carlisle, my 1996 LT4 Vette was struck by lightning (aka The Hand of God). I was able to coast under partial power to the nearest Chevy dealership and had to leave it with the service center.

When it happened all electrical systems went nuts, every light on the dash lit-up for a second and then flashed for a second, most of the interior courtesy lights blew, and as best I can tell some of the exterior lights too. The AC blower fan burnt up and the AC control module is fried. The point of impact appears to be either a break rotor which appears to have warped from heat or the exhaust which is now suffering from multiple leaks and is scorched severely both the cat and resonator split at the seams. Wiring is fried and even nonexistent in many areas.

The insurance adjuster is on his way to the dealership now and I guess they will contact me when they know something. The mechanic's first thoughts were " You're F***ed"

Any advise, thoughts or encouragement welcome.

There are such things as independent automotive appraisers (look on-line or in the yellow pages) who will help you get your car's true value. For example, a number of years ago my daughter's VW Golf was stolen and the insurance company wanted to give her $1,200. We got an independent appraiser and the insurance settled for $4,800 with no objection. If these guys are "certified" (whatever that means) the insurance company just rolls over.

Thanks for the information but as it turns out State Farm is paying to repair the car; and some of the information that was originally given to me by the first dealership was at the least inaccurate. There was a lot of damage but not as much as they first stated; yet in some ways more that what they claimed.
