I have to change my vote. I originally said '73, but since I bought a 69 convertable, side piped, 4 speed, #'s matching, 383 stroked, blue with black int today, I have to say 69 is now my favorite.

I voted for 72. I was 14 in 1972 & remember going to the Chevy dealer with my father and sitting in the brand new Vettes and my dad paitently waiting while I was burning up the streets in my mind. I can still picture that car in my mind. How long ago that was.....

72 was also my first Vette at the age of 19. I had to sell it several years later after I got married. I have joked about that with my wife for years, "You made me sell the Vette" (actually it was the Airforce, we got sent to Germany). I guess she must have got tired of hearing it because she let me buy a new c6.:)

At the age of 15 and just 500$, I started to sell things through ebay, knowing that my parents would pay for half of my car. I was set on a 'vette, and soon multiplied my 500$ to roughly 5 grand in under a year. When I was 16, I set out for a vette and found an 82 that was perfect. Fair miles, mint condition and drives smooth.

I'm still 16, and a junior in high school, my 82 serves me well and that's why I voted for 80-82, cuz of the smoooth lines :)

Congratulations flynbyu82,

You're a very enterprising young person and have well earned your 82! I hope you get to enjoy it for many years. :D I didn't get my 82 CE until I was well over 30! :w

Hugs,

My 15+ year old has the same deal as you have and is saving his $$$. Knowing him as I do I am not looking forward to his license as I fear the havic he will reek on the poor unsuspecting public. You must be cut from a different cloth and having the southern location helps a bit as you have a year rounder. What's your deal on car insurance as I can't imagine what it costs for a 16 year old with a vette. Up here it would be just a wee bit pricey. I got my 1st vette when I was 24 and had to register it in my girlfriends name so that I could afford the insurance. Had to marry her just to get the keys on occasion--so far so good on that front.

Hey !!!!!
All I have to say is great job! You, will be going far in life keep it up.

Our deal was that I had to pay for half the car and gas, my parents pay for insurance. I dont want to ask my dad what he pays :) But, he has a Shelby Cobra and a Carrera sitting in the garage so its not like I'm going to bank rupt him ;), I just stole is sense of cars !!

As for a teenager with a vette, Im a pretty responsible kid, never seeing if I can top out my car or anything. It's actually very easy to drive compared to a lot of cars. The accelerator and steering isn't to touchy, and it handles well. The only thing bad I've learned about my car, or, 'dangerous?' is how the weight really does effect how it drives. When it's raining, I make sure I'm super careful not to lose control, driving slower than I normally do. And from experiance, accelerating on turns isn't a good idea, I've already had my share of 360s from accelerating on turns :).

Congrats! I didn't get mine until senior year of highschool. Of course, I was also 23 at the time. :L Just kidding... I was 18 when I bought mine. But then again, I paid for everything! (That's why I had to wait until I was 18...couldn't get a bank loan at 17.)
And yeah, insurance ain't cheap. Plus, I was already working on my ticket log by that time. :L It took me 10 years (!!!) before I finally got off high-risk insurance. Anyways...

Your car will top out around mid-120's. Maaaaybe 130. And with stock alignment, the front end gets a bit light.
Yeah, the rear end gets very loose on slick, damp roads. At least being FL you have a daily driver. My car gets to sit in the garage for half the year.:cry
No matter, mine's not waterproof and I don't think Fort Knox has enough money to change that! :L
Sounds like you old man has good taste in cars! The brutish and the refined. Nice... :upthumbs

I voted for 73-74, not only because I own a 74. But because I think the 74 is one of a kind by being the only year for the 2 piece rear bumper. Also like the Rocker panels in Chrome compared to later models that came in Black. Also I like the small vertical rear window that not only looks good but leaves extra room for good looking chrome luggage rack. And at last. it was the last year that didn't require a catalic converter. I don't like too much restriction on the exaust.

1970 vert for me :D

Second time's the charm

My first Corvette was a '73 big block/4-speed, and it was the greatest thing on the road. Unfortunately, I lost it in '80 (I don't want to talk about it) and have been aching to replace it ever since. In any event, through the years, I've come to really come to appreciate the beauty of the '70-'72 years with that chrome front bumper. My 2c

Well it's Like 1st. True Love I had to go 68-69!! But I Like All Sharks!! Come to think of it I never seen a Corvette I didn't Like!! Hot Dog's,Apple Pie, Chevrolet !!!! :upthumbs junk!!

The slogan was: "baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and chevrolet!"
I wonder if baseball would be replaced by football if they did that commercial today?

Amended Remarks

I really liked the 1969 L71/427 convertibles. They had that tasty little integrated spoiler on the tail, that beautiful big block hood and just the right amount of chrome. The convertibles looked mean with the top up or down and the 427's had awesome performance. Add the factory side exhaust and that car was hard to beat (looks & performance).

Vettes Rule - all Vettes
Remo :cool

I'll amend my comments from 2003 to include the 78 Pace Car. Terrific silver and black paint scheme that flowed perfectly with the shark lines.
