Its time for new rubber, front and back. '95 LT1 coupe, pretty much stock.

Goal: not racing, not dragging - longer trips, want good ride with good handling - wet weather traction desireable. No, I DON'T drive my baby in the rain as a rule, but have been caught out a couple of times.

Goodyear? Kumho? g-Force? What's the latest news?

Thanks, Bob

On other cars I have been very happy with Michelin tires. Wet weather safty, handling, ride and lack of noise are all big plus. The last car I had them on was a 98 Riv which had a relativly wide tire. Loved them. Every car I have put them on has been an improvment over what was on before. The down side many $$$$$$ I priced them at sears for my 90, $300 + each.:ugh From what I have read in other threads, I may go with the Kumo because of price, but I still have time to decice. ;shrug

you get what you pay for

Check out the GY F1 GS D3's. Go to the Goodyear website.
Check out the Tire Rack price. You will be pleasantly surprised.
BTW, I have had them for over a year on mine. They are incredible!

I'm going w/ these the next time I buy. Highly rated tire...they even got Hibs thumbs up! Tirerack has them for about $200 per tire for the size I use...less for the sizes you'll need Bob.

I've never been a Goodyear fan, they may be a fine tire (I'm not going to debate it), but I recently bought the Falken Ze512's. They seem to be a good riding, quiet tire that has good mileage rating. I don't drive my 94 aggresively so maybe they won't "cut the mustard" if you drive that way, but so far, I am pleased with my Falkens. They were priced about like the Kumho's, but from what I have read the Kumhos will "flat spot" if they sit a while (they come out of it after they warm up, I guess) I never read anything about that with the Falkens. You can check them out here http://www.discounttiredirect.com

I had those on my Avenger and I liked them. You gotta admit, the price is right. I just think that I'm going to put performance before price when it comes to my Vette.

I understand that... but on the flip side of the coin, if you dump a thousand bucks or more into tires, your car won't be worth any more.... and it is tough for me to put almost 10% of the cars value into it on something that needs replacing. On an older C4, $1,000 may be far more than 10% :(

When I purchased my vette it had Firestone Firehawk's on it. The previous owner had just replaced the rears but not the fronts. When I went looking for new tires last spring I found out Firestone discontinued the tire.
I ended up with Fuzion ZRi's. Very reasonably priced, exact same tread pattern as the Firehawk and made by Bridgestone. Great ride and handling too. I got mine at the local Firestone store but they are also available at Tire Rack.

i have f1's also great tire i will get them again negativs pricy a bit noisy

My personal favorite is BF Goodrich G Force. The really stick in wet or dry. I have run these on three cars now and not one complaint.

Unfortunately F1 GS D3 are in back-order, gods know until when... :( Do any of You guys have any experience with Pirellis P7000 ? I just put them on my 91. Regards

Firestone is owned by Bridgestone, so they might be the same tire just rebadged as a Bridgestone.

I put Cooper Cobras on both my 73 and 79 Stingrays. Driven both on vacations over the last couple of years, and they are good tires and I paid less than
$300.00 a set Why pay for big names like Goodyear and Firestone

Kumho

I am really starting to love these guys. I bought a set of Kumhos for my everyday car (Grand Prix) due to the fact that they were reasonable in price and my GP has 160K on it (and still purring!). Anyways, I was so blown away by how good these tires were (MUCH better than the stock goodyears and better than the more expensive Dunlops I had been riding). I figured that I would give them a try on my C4. Great choice. If you have a budget to adhere to and want to get the best bang for the buck these are it. You can check them out here..

I bought a set of Firestone Firehawk 500's last Spring from the Tirerack, and I love these tires. They're much more quiet, and handle better than the GT +4's that were on it (which were like brand new by the way).

I was very disappointed with the GT+4's. I loved the looks as they were very wide (they'd bang on short radius turns), but they were very noisy, and loose/slippery on the road. I decided last spring to go with more of a stock tire.

I'm sure your not looking for the same type tire, as mine are only 15"!

Also a good tire. We've been using them on our BMW (3 or 4 sets) but they are being discontinued (according to Discount Tire). The replacement is the Ecsta ASX which we bought a set of a mo. or so ago. I personally don't like the look (tread design) as much as the 712's but they are supposed to wear much better. The 712's wear quick...although the price is right. The ASX's are priced about the same.

I put these on my 84 coupe and they will go on my 90 coupe as well when I need tires for it.... I love them...

Thanks all! Your comments are greatly appreciated, and if I know this place they are probably going to continue for a while - a controversial subject.

I lean toward Kumho's a bit, as I had a set of their passenger tires on the family car and liked them a lot. But on a performance car, might be a different matter.

Thanks, Bob
