SMOKINGJOE, Are you aware that MSD has a distributor for the Chev with a mechanical tach drive - with or with out vaccum advance. Works well with the 6A and is a easy hook up. Steve
I believe Mid America sells a tool/adapter that screws on to the end of the cable ( after it is removed from the tranny ). This tool has a grease fitting on the end so you are able to pump grease into the cable. I have used it on my 66 for both the speedo and tach cables. --- Steve
It is unfortunate that many of our laws have been spawned from special interest groups with their own private agenda in mind. It all boils down to money, politics, power and votes. I am very sympathic and concerned about the enviromental issues, however, is there any truth in what they are...
I believe that show was making reference to the old story that has been around for years --- " Do you want to buy a vette cheap - only one problem - someone died in it ". Steve
I believe with solid lifters the engine should be run until operating temperature is reached and than shut down. Starting with the crank at the O degree mark you adjust certain intake and exhaust valve lashes. Than the crank is rotated 180 degrees and certain other intake and exhaust valve...
My guess for the change over to hydraulic would be for less maintenance and maybe better fuel economy. However, not knowing the history or reason of the prior rebuild -- who knows. I have a solid lifter cam on my BB and the valve adjustment/maintenance is not all that bad. The valve lash...
I decided to clean the under the hood part of the harness where it connects to the fuse box at the firewall. I removed the plastic connector from the firewall and started cleaning the individual metal connectors inside the plastic . As luck would have it I broke one of the individual metal...
Brent, I have a Edelbrock torker ( 1970 era ) and a 850 Holley on my 66 BB. I believe the Edelbrock Preformer is very similar to the Torker. That is , height wise. They both fit under the hood fine -- you do have a stinger hood ? More important is the right air cleaner. Be sure the air cleaner...
Boogieman, You were quite fortunate to enjoy all those muscle car rides,I bet you wish you had them now. A close friend had a 426 hemi charger, what a beast. I won $5. when I beat a 421 2+2 Catilina with my GTO. I use to listen to Randy and the Rainbows sing " Little GTO " over and over. ( still...
No power steering, no air, no power brakes, AM radio, 8 track under the dash, wide oval red line tires, STP sticker in window, Sunoco 260 , posi rear, marlboro cigarettes are we all the same or what. The one and only original muscle car era -- The Sixites. My first ride was a 1966 red with...
I recently changed all four shocks on my 66. Like ctjackster I installed gas and followed the same procedure. Besure to use jack stands and not just a jack. The hardest part was the top nut on the rear shocks other than that it was easy. Steve
I did the entire change over to stainless two years ago along with silicone fluid. The additional funds needed to upgrade to ss was not that bad and worth the peace of mind, especially if you don't drive the vehicle that often. Pedal pressure is better, maintenance is less but more importantly...
Welcome Mike, You will find plenty great information and experience here. A must for a vette owner. Don't be shy. Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question. If you have the time review the past threads, a wealth of knowledge there. Steve
