What was original? Did the firewall have both, the sound deadener and insulation or just the insulation. Also the second reply you mentioned the heat sheid as well, ....you were talking about for the carpeting correct?

I've got my all my dash out now and am looking to get some new insulation for the firewall and while I'm at it, I'd like to go ahead and get some padding or heat sheilding for under the carpet. ANy suggestions as to what type and where's the best place to get it.......Thanks.

Thats exactly what's puzzling. In the corvette shop manual, it illustrated 2 4-speed transmissions. One which has the 20 needle stack, and the other which has the 24 needle stack. According to my model year and the numbers, one would say I've got the 20 stack. Thats not the case, I've got the 24...
