1986 GM Restoration Part Fuel Sender

I am replacing my fuel sender assembly because it has somewhat corroded I suspect from the 10% alcohol in all the fuel now. My question is that the old original sender assembly had a pulsator mounted between the pump and the sender assembly to the fuel outlet. The GM restoration part comes...

Fuel Pump Pulsator - Keep it or Eliminate it?

I just replaced the fuel level sender unit in my 86' because it was giving erratic level readings. While I was at it I replaced the fuel pump. Only used original Ac Delco parts for the replacement. I did not realize that there was a pulsator between the pump and fuel line so I had to use the old...

    Original 1986 battery Info

I want to re-create the look of the original battery that came from the factory with my C4 . Of course the original was long gone when I purchased the vehicle 15 years ago. Is there a source for this info, any good pictures available? I contacted AC-Delco but they do not keep an archive of this...

    Fuel Sender Diagnosis

I just started driving my 86' after the long winter storage. Just before I put it away last November it had a full tank of gas and I added Sta-Bil. I started it a few times during the winter and kept the battery charged up. I just recently filled the tank up again after storage, the fuel gage...

    U-Joints - Aluminum Driveshafts

I have the factory aluminum driveshaft and halfshafts in my 1986. I need to replace the U-Joints. I see that there are optional anti-galvanic U-joints available for this application. Has anybody had experience with these, are they absolutely necessary.

Installing Poly Mount Bushings on Steering Rack

I just got a set of Poly bushings for my 1986 Coupe. Any hints on installing the Steering rack bushings? It looks like you have to remove a tie rod end and the dust boot from the passenger side to slip the ring mount into position. Has anyone just put a slit in the mount and slipped it over...

    I need advice

I'm thinking of purchasing a ZR1. What should I be looking for as far as weaknesses of this vehicle. I currently own a 1986 Coupe and really have not had any problems other than regular maintenance items. I have owned that car for 11 years and driven it about 25,000 miles. Is it possible...

    Power Steering Cooler

Does anyone have pictures of how the factory optional power steering cooler is mounted on a 1986? I have a cooler but am not sure of the exact mounting location and bracket shape. I think I need to fabricate brackets for it, the brackets are no longer available from GM.

    C4 Door Weatherstriping

Has anyone here used weatherstripping from "METRO"? If so was it good quality, did it fit well etc. It is a lot less expensive than OEM and was wondering if it's worth the money.

    Restoration Software?

Does anyone here know where to get a software package that you can use to track restoration and maintenance of a vehicle? Something that you can enter dates, part numbers, descriptions of procedures, photos of the areas being restored etc. Kind of like a detailed datbase?

    Another A/C Question

I am recharging my A/C system after completely replacing the entire system. I have vacummed the system down and it holds vacuum for over 24 hours with no movement on the gage so I assume I have a tight system. My question is, the temperature in my garage is only around 40 deg F, is this warm...

Bleeding Master Cylinder in an 86'

Anyone have experience with the master cylinder on a 1986? I need to replace mine and I already have a new one ready to go but wanted to ask if anyone knows if it needs to be bench bled first. I usually bench bleed master cylinders before installation, but I looked in the factory manual for...

    Yet another A/C Question

I'm replacing the entire A/C sytem in my 86 Vette. New compressor, condenser, accumulator hoses, R134a etc. The factory repair manual says "Add oil to the new condenser". How much do you add? I know I need to add oil to the new compressor and accumulator, but I didn't know you needed to add...

Correct alternator number for a 1986

Does any one out there know the correct original alternator that came with the 1986 aluminum head Vette? The one I have in there is part number: 1101264 105A 11036A 12v NEG. I've been told this is not the original and it is not the correct one. I thought it was original to the vehicle, it...

    1986 Wheel Refinishing

Does anyone here know how to properly refinish wheels from a 1986. I have had my wheels refinished 2 times by a local wheel shop. The wheels where stripped, the surfaces where CNC machined to restore the correct pattern on the face and then clear powdercoated. They never last more than 6...

    Rear Axle Lube Change

Any tips on how to drain and refill the rear axle in a 1986. I figure I can use one of those hand pump brake bleeder setups to suck out the old lube, but I'm looking for a shortcut to refill the axle. Also what is the correct ratio of lube to anti-slip additive? I thought it was one bottle of...
