Anyone NOT run their front plate?

Well I hope your luck continues to work for you, with the plate that is. Not really sure what the Yankees have to do with this. Boston won the World Series, when? LOL

We are required to have a front plate here in Wy, but 90% of the vette owners don't put them on. I think that it's kind of an unwritten agreement that the cops won't stop vette owners for this, but I could be wrong. I haven't had a problem yet. I think it ruins the front of the car to put a plate on it.

Went to JAIL over this!!!

Texas is a 2 plate state.

I do not have a front plate and will not have one...I'll just pay the fine. I haven't really noticed any vettes with a front plate, C5's that is, and the police don't really bother folks that much.

BUT......You were wondering about the JAIL part?

Way back in 1982 I had a beautiful dark blue 79 6.6, tan interior w/ chocolate dash/console. It had all the stickers and was mint. It did NOT have a front plate, nor was I about to ruin that beautiful front end with one. Yes, I got a ticket. Yes, I was cocky and tossed it. And forgot about it. Dumba$$. 2 years later I was coming home from work one night and got pulled over for speeding. Imagine my surprise when the officer told me I had a warrant out for my arrest! I couldn't imagine why. I wracked my brain and was at a total loss. I guess he believed me, because he let me drive my car, a bug at that time, behind him to the police station so we could sort it out. Well, we found out and boy did I feel stupid. 45 minutes in jail and my girlfriend shows up with several fraternity brothers to bail me out. It was only $125 so no biggie there. All of them, the police included, had a great laugh at my expense. Anywhoo, in court I was behind several DWI's, Public Intox, Assualts...when they came to me the judge said "No front plate, what are you doing here?" I said I forgot about it, and she said I should be more careful because I could go to jail for that. I said I did. That's how I remembered the ticket. It was my lucky day because she dismissed everything and I even got $75 back. She said not to do it again. I won't...and haven't.

BUT I still won't run a front plate if it makes the car look bad.

The front plate

I'm from Taxachusetts too. I run my plate, because if I didn't I'd get stopped the day I took it off. I don't know that for sure, but why give them something to pull you over for?

I opted not to have front plates even though New Jersey requires them. I was pulled over :mad and given a warning. (Being blonde I gave him the "but officer my dealer never told me bit and tried to look dumb)lol. All the police officer wanted to know was where all of the vettes where going and to see me 03 AE. Since he had not seen one up close and personal. I now have a plate in the front and it looks ok i guess. :( But, I would be happier with out it.

Looks like I'm the only guy who got stopped. Ran it for 2 years without the front plate. Got pulled over on the way home from work here in Ohio. Think it cost me $80. I put the plate on.;shrug

Supposed to but don't.
I do have the second plate in the car just not mounted to the front

There are single plate states, Wisconsin also a 2 plate, but really don't bother any vehicle to much. it depends on your state and local police and their attitude.

front plate required in va....did not run one on my 99 and got pulled over 3 times...2warnings and 1 ticket, been without a plate on my 2002 for a year and no problems yet...cops just need a reason to pull you over...be careful out there

"My two-sence worth..."

:w

I live in Vegas [baby], the :drink & :Steer capitol of the world...

When I get my '04, later on this year, the only thing I've
promised myself is not to be a DUI statistic...

I plan on accomplishing that by this...

I also do not plan on affixing my front tag, which is required...

Not having it displayed gives the 'local constabulary' specific
grounds to stop you and (especially at night) check for sobriety.

If you have been :m , you are :bash .

When I've made these kinds of stops, if everything checks out
o.k. (license, insurance., etc), I'd cut the driver loose and just tell him the front tag is required and "have a nice day..." ;)

I guess the question you have to ask yourself is...

"Do you feel lucky today, punk... ;shrug "

:eyerole

Live in CA, and never ran a front plate on my Gen4 Trans Am or C5. Ruins the lines, I think.

I did get a warning in my TA on a non-related stop, however I think the unwritten rule for local cops is "drive cool, we won't roust you on a front plate that was never meant to be"

Of course that rear placard that says 'SPDMETL' let's everyone know what I'm about :s

thanks

NO front tag here either.......Hope I don't get stopped :eek
i can only hope that your gang saves me and or my family from all the other gangs out there. buttoms up guy. thanks for all law enforcment for putting their lives on the line every day. i realize that policing goes way deeper than giving somebody a ticket for a plate violation. want to give kuddos to all police except the garland, tx. police department. on the other hand i live in richardson, tx and they are the nicest people you will ever meet. your happy to get a ticket from one of these officers ( well sorta of). thanks again..... steve.

well, this is the another time i am happy to be a cannuck,we dont have to have a front plate.:beer
you dont even get the second plate.mike

front plate

Had 4 Vettes in Chicago and 3 in Kali; never put a front plate on any of them. Got one fix it ticket a year ago. Put doublestick tape on the plate, slapped it on the front, went to county sherrif's office. Cop looked at it, & signed the ticket(signed it off). He went back into his building I drove about a block away & pulled it off. I've been lucky for the last 35 years. Having no front plate has never cost me out of the pocket.

When I got my 'vette, it had a front plate on it and the guy didn't give me the cover. I'm kinda ****ed. I'll have to find a white '95 cover for it soon. I should probably get all of the inspection/tax stickers (ugly) on the windshield first. I hate that they are legally required to be dead center on the bottom of the windshield. Virginia is a pain in the @$$, but I don't want too many stupid reasons to get pulled over.

i live in baltimore and the cops here seem to understand that it ruins the look of the front of the car.i saw one c5 owner who put his tag on the front air dam below the bumper not sure if it's legal but it is displayed on the front of the car.

front plate

If the cop is a jerk and insists on giving you a ticket, take it smile and then go to local DMV, have a friend turn in your front plate, you go in 20 minutes later say to clerk you" lost" you front plate. Get a note from DMV saying you got plate,go to court and show judge, case dismissed. Works for me. Save the Wave.>George

No - I am in Colorado and have a bra on the car.I have not been stopped and will probably ask my local constabulary if its OK with him. I also drove my c-5 back to KY to see the plant and museum and was never stopped( I did not drive slow - either). So far good luck- but I think they rteally don't care since a corvette is relatively rare in the mountains to see.!!!
