Just got the dreaded column lock message and I'm stuck. Bought the vet two Mont's ago and when I called the dealer I was told that all recall work was done on the car. Can anyone tell me haw to get to the lockout plate and remove it? Maybe a steering wheal diagram or anything like that. I know there have been lots of other threads written about the subject but none seam to say how to get the car moving when it happens. O yes, shaking the wheal does not do it.
Thanks for any info on this old subject.

My doughtier wanted so much to be driven to her confirmation in the vett tomorrow:cry .

Even if you get the lock plate removed, that does not mean it will work. If the BCM does not get the appropriate signal (+12 volts), it will believe that the lock pin is not retracted and cut off the fuel.

Shaking the wheel did not worked for me. You need to remove the ignition key, turn the wheel to the right (or the left, I do not recall exactly) then insert the key and try. That worked for me. I also read that you should close all the doors and windows. This is what I did. It can work and be ok for 1 start or a week or more.

More info on my web site : http://pages.videotron.com/vette747/ and scroll down to “Electric Column Lock & Recall” link.

Once again I'm saved by the fine people on this board, especially Warren S, if you ever find yourself in San Diego give me a call I owe you a tall cold one! The info link was awesome.:beer With the great info I was able to troubleshoot the system and get the car going. Turned out the previous owner had all recall work done and then for some reason he reconfigured the locking system back to original state. The cause for my problem had nothing to due with the recall or any of the original problems that plagued the C-5's. The problem was the battery, it was plenty strong enough to start the car over and over but the actual voltage was around 10.2 volts and that was insufficient to activate the solenoid. Once I swapped the battery for a new one the problem is gone.
Thanks again for the help:blue:
