Convert. “sound killer” Are they worth it?

I have an ’87 convertible and am interested in purchasing a convertible sound-deadening mat for the rear compartment. Does anyone have one? Do they work well and how do they look? I like the idea of keeping articles in the back out of sight.


Polling the masses before I drop $200.

Besides killing the sound from the rear speakers, they keep you from easily accessing anything back there. Even though "out of sight, out of mind" sounds good, if somebody wants to find out if anything in in the storage area, they will simply punch or cut through it. And there is no real security alarm protection with the top down.

You can probably get some vinyl from an upholstery shop and trim it to fit and attach some velcro to hold it in place and save a bunch of that $200. Even some light carpeting would work.

You know, this is why I subscribe to this web site, I never thought about the rear speakers; the sound system is bad enough that I couldn’t possibly loose two speakers.

I have one of these sound killers and like it. It does kill the rear speakers however when the top is down it is almost impossible to hear the stereo. If you drive with the top up it is easily removed
