Cost of an oil change at dealer?

I paid about $90 at the dealer in PA and about the same price at a shop that specializes in Corvettes in TX.

Hey

Yesterday l took my 02 into a local dealer for an oil change because there was no wait and they seemed slow. I also went with a discount coupon that was on their web site for approx $29.00 but l was aware at the time that it was not for syn oil Mobil One.

Now this was for an oil change/filter and lube. I also told them not to check anything else out.

Bottom line an hour later it was finished and everything was in order except the bill came to $96.00.

They charged me $9.95 per quart and l needed 7 quarts, the rest was the filter and labor plus taxes.

Was l hosed :boogie and if l was how badly?

Thanks

I just paid $86.00. It can be done for less, but that was done at a dealer.

$96 ain't bad; check out the price of Mobil 1 now - remember gasoline is now $3.00 and gallon and that quart of Mobil 1 that used to be $4 has gone way up too. I tip the Service Writer, Service Manager and the mechanic who is the Corvette specialist at my dealer more than that each at Xmas each year.

However, I also own a 2007 Caddy, a 2005 Tahoe and a 1998 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup and they do all the work on those too. They will come to my house (5 miles out of town) and pick up or drop off my vehicles, my vehicles get immediate attention and rarely do they take more than a few hours from start to finish. In other words, I get the maximum VIP treatment.

The funny thing is that I usually spend less at the Chevy dealership on 4 vehicles than I do at the John Deere dealer for them to maintain the utility tractor I use to mow my 6 acre yard!

I did all my mechanical work myself (and I do mean everything) when I was much younger and much poorer. Now, I've got way too much to do to otherwise and a mechanic's billing rate is a lot less than mine.

I still do all my own mechanic's work on my motorcycle; cause its still fun.

I work for a Chevrolet dealer. the oil filter should have cost you $5.32. The oil ( provided your dealer used the GM part # 12345885) should have been 9.39 per quart. At the dealership that I work at, we charge $7.95 per quart for the GM part#. We also use matrix pricing that most dealers do not. I, myself, have relentlessly searched for a lower price for Mobil1 in my area. The lowest price I could find was $5.35 per quart--Walmart-of course. My suggestion is that if you do not want to pay your dealer the price they charge, do it yourself. It is way, way cheaper. As far as record keeping for warranty purposes, in the State of Pennsylvania as long as YOU keep maintanence records, they cannot deny your warranty coverage.

For mobil 1 synthetic, the dealer that I've used charges approx 85-90 bucks.

I just picked up Mobil 1 Synthenic 5W30W today at Auto Zone and it cost me $5.99 per quart; so for 7 quarts it was $41.93 plus the filter and I got a Delco PF-46 for only $3.99, so just for this comes to $45.92. I've seen this Mobile 1 sell for almost $8.00 per quart too. By the way the book calls for a PF-44 and Auto Zone told me this :confused PF-46 is the same thing, what is the skinny here; should I use it? Is it the shorter verson of the 44 or what? ;help

The PF46 replaced the PF44. Even the dealers are all using the PF46.

General Motors replaced the PF-44 with the PF-46. You are OK.

That is what I thought, is the 46 shorter or the same size? Did give somet thought of using the Mobile 1 filter but I have always used the AC Delco, kind of a stickler for OEM replacment.

Bill - as I recall the PF46 Duragaurd is just a little shorter
than the old PF44 Ultraguard.

I buy Mobil 1 at Wally World in 5 qt. containers and it only costs $23. That's less than $5 a qt. When I bought my ZR1 the first thing I did was to pull the wheels off and clean the inner side. Besides the dirt and brake dust I also cleaned off gobs of grease on all of the wheels. Theres goes the balance. The problem I have always seen is the lube is done with the weight off the suspension then when lowered on the ground the excess grease comes out on the wheels or they just over lube them. I do my own lube and oil changes, thank you very much.

Wally World !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that out of National Lampoons movie with Chevy Chase??

You're welcome very much. We wouldn't want to deny you the Zen moments associated
with performing your own lube and oil changes.:L
