i had my hands on the "spokes" (im sure there is a better word) of my sterring wheel. my thumbs were pointing inward, resting under the center cap/horn. when i sneezed, i guess i tensed up pretty hard and snapped that thing right off. 2 of the 4 little plastic clips broke off.

not that is wasnt irritating enough when it happened, but when i get home to check the price of a new one and its 94.99 in Eckler's and 109.99 in Mid America!!! looks like im going ebaying. anyone got one for a 84-85 that they want to sell?

We're gonna have to start calling you "Strong Thumbs" or something! Of course, they do say that a sneeze has a close association to an orgasm. :L

Can't help ya with the part, though I know what you're going through; I re-used my botton when I replaced my wheel a few years back. The button wasn't even available yet at that time, but I imagine it would certainly not have been any less costly. :eyerole

Good luck.

Matt , I think it's time to start calling the Corvette salvage yards ! Cliff

Matt....did you break this piece? Its part number 624858 at TLD...$18.00

It amazes me how people buy expensive cars, but when something breaks or needs fixing they balk at the price and try to skimp to fix it. Isn't that part of owning a Corvette? If you need it, go to GM to see if it is still available, and if it is, buy it!!!! Nothing beats original parts>.........................................

Um, Ratdog, many of us own older Vettes because it's all we can afford (I paid $5k for mine - not exactly an expensive car any longer). Like MG or Triumph owners, we try to keep them running on a serious budget because we know it's the only way we'll ever be able to enjoy one.

And honestly, parts for CHEAP cars are expensive, too. Ever price a radiator for a Chevette, or an air filter for a Geo Metro, from the dealer? Definitely not cheap...

No, I don't think so.

I try to get by as cheaply as possible. Sometimes my finances require that I buy non GM.

You make it sound like if you own a vette your obligated to buy all GM parts reqardless of price. Don't think so.

I enjoy my vette and use what ever works.

Like RRubel, I drive an older vette, because that's all I can afford. (bought mine for 3500)

im not trying to be cheap, and when its important, i will try and go with the original hardware as much as possible. but were talking about an $18 piece of plastic that goes under the horn cap, versus a $95 entire replacement. unless im getting donations, im gonna have to go with the $18 job.

Ken, after reading your response, I guess I better re-think my allergies.

:beer ;stupid
Totally agree.

Besides if we bought an expensive Vette then we still would not have the money to buy expensive parts. If we could then maybe we all could drive a new Z06

I do not consider saving money on parts as being cheap; regardless if it is OEM or not. That is perhaps the most rediculous comment to make. If you don't want to contribute to solving the problem noted, don't reply!

Now for Ken's comment - I will look at a bad cold in an entirely different perspective from now on. I think I gotta sneeze:L :L

Isn't this a C4 Tech Disussion? Don't you have a C3?:duh

I have the money but I still shop around.

;LOL
