Just Installed Magnaflow Mufflers

I am thinking of loosing my Flowmaster Force II Mufflers and going with the Magnaflow ones. :D

I put Manaflow mufflers on my C3 and also on my Suburban ... they sound great ... these are not the Magnaflow sold for the C5 ... they have a nice mellow sound & bark when I floor it ... very little resonance ... easy to speak & listen to the radio ..

:w :s :J

Thank you for the reply....... Thats good enuf for me, I agree with getting the 80-90 % for alot less $$. I will go that route.

next question.............. What is the desired modification for better air in?? K&N filter replacement or complete intake change?

thanks again fellers!

Idaho Slim, you will get many different opinions on this topic. I will give my .02 worth. Since my engine is stock, I just went with K&N filter, using the stock intake hardware. You might see a slight improvement in high-end HP with an opened air box, such as those sold by MAD. Some people just lilke the looks and sound of an aftermarket air box, and if that trips their trigger, so be it. I certainly would not claim to be an expert on this topic, but if you have a basically stock engine, I doubt you will see any significant HP gain by modofying the air intake. I think the same holds true for bigger throttle bodies, again, assuming an otherwise stock engine. I will probably stay where I am right now until I have the $$ to do the job right - cam, heads, long-tube headers, throttle body, etc. Let me know what you decide, and good luck with whatever course you choose! :upthumbs

I just wanted to post that I finally drove my 1996 LT1 with the new Magnaflow mufflers installed. It sounds great! Deep, low rumble at idle, and it screams when you stand on it. However, not obnoxius at all. There is a very small resonance at around 1,800 RPM, but not a problem at all. I could not be happier. I still recommend the Magnaflows for those who want a significant increase in sound (but not too loud), at a reasonable price.

Great news!!!

If you ever get tired of the small resonance the crossover balance tube did a great job in my LT1 with long tube headers and no cats!

Crossover= Better engine performance and sound. (at last in my vette)

See you! :w

Agreed!

I agree wholeheartedly! I've been getting **** on here because Flows give some resonance. Guess what, pal? That's why I bought them! I want to hear my built 383 stroker run and know I can kick the **** out of anything on the street that even tries to be a putz around my 10 sec (still streetable) 'Vette! Kudo's to you, and applause!

ummmmm.....

I hate to be less than amicable, here, but I pulled my Magnaflows off to put Flowmasters back on, they sounded kinda tinny on a 3" exhaust. It's kind of a trade-off on the outside sound, inside resonance, and HP. I'm trying the 2 stage Flowmasters for now. And yes, the crossover reduces your resonance no matter which way you go. I didn't notice any HP increase, but it makes the car more streetable.

Just got back from getting my MagnaFlow's installed. Unbelievable sound. Had to stop at my insurance company, and the girls in the office that I know pretty well caming running out to look and listen. Both are car girls, and they appreciated the sound.:cool

Hats off to Curt and the guys at Automotive Exhaust in Valparaiso, Indiana.:upthumbs They did a super job, made sure everything was nice and tight, and played with the pipes until the exhaust tips were in perfect alignment with each other if you looked straight down from the top, and were level going across.

Really took a long time thinking about it, and glad that I made the decision.

Green LT! - Thanks for being the testing consultant on this muffler issue! I am ordering a pair tomorrow. You got yours on Ebay? What did you search?

Hey Green LT1 - What the part number for your mufflers?

Johnny, glad to help! My polished mufflers are Magnaflow #15623. I got them on Ebay (from Performance Peddler) in December, I believe, for $350 delivered to my door. I have read that Magnaflow has put new restrictions on how low the advertised prices of their products can be, although the prices have not actually been raised. You may need to actually call the retailers to get their best price. The list price is around $530.00. I love mine, and I think they look great. Also very easy to install. Let me know if you have any other questions - good luck!

Did the mufflers come with a piece of tailpipe to connect to the existing?

Magnaflows

Green LT1, I just wanted to followup and say that I got a pair of Magna's (PN 15623) for my 1992 Coupe back in January. I agree they sound and look great! It takes a little while to get used to the increased sound on throttle up but the sound is a nice rich rumble. The car now sounds like a sports car should. BTW, I got mine through a local parts store (CRW Parts in Capitol Heights, MD) for $320. The store was recommended on the Magnaflow website. I picked them up myself and saved the shipping. Had them installed locally for about $100. Hope to have pictures once the weather here clears up and it gets warmer. :D

Yes, the back of the muffler comes back about 5" to connect to the existing tail pipes. The place that installed mine welded the connection rather than just using a clamp and it is much tighter and looks better.

Johnny, as c4rick said, the mufflers come with the necessary pipe to connect to the stock system. Believe me, installation is really a snap, and I'm no mechanic. Takes about 1 hour and basic hand tools. I have mine clamped in place right now, but as soon as I resume my liability insurance and get the car out of the garage (hopefully very soon), I will take it in to have the connections welded. Welding the connections prevents exhaust gas leakage (never good) and insures that the mufflers will not come loose and hit the ground (REALLY NOT good).

The guys who installed mine, used clamps to hold them in place until they were happy with the position, etc., and then went back and put welds in. Then left the clamps in place.

Kind of like wearing a belt and suspenders, but I'm really happy with the way it all came together.

I don't know if anyone else ran into this problem, but the holes in the hanger bracket did not line up with the hole in the bracket welded to the mufflers. They just nipped a little bit off the end of each hanger bracket with a torch, and everything lined up nicely.

I know it cost a bit more to get installed, but exhaust systems and I just don't seem to get along, so I took mine to the experts and stood around drinking coffee and BS'n with them while they did the work.

Im glad to see that the magnaflows did not dissapoint you. Please keep us posted if things change as you drive the car. This is probably my choice for an exhaust upgrade.

New Magnaflows installed just today on my 95 LT-1

I'm with c4Rick, Green LT1, Road Racefan and you other guys who are happy with them -- these things look and sound awesome. I really didn't want to spend more than about $450. on muffs and after reading Green LT1's original endorsement late last year, I decided to go with the Magnas. I bought them from Performance Peddler, the Ebay vendor. Won the auction last Sat. night (I was the only bidder), paid him via Paypal that night, he shipped them Monday and they arrived Weds. PM. The box that arrived was factory sealed which also made me happy. Total cost delivered was $320. I had the local Midas install them and they did a great job. They had the same problem that Road Racefan pointed out with the holes lining up, so they had to cut the bracket. That being the case I am glad I didn't attempt the install myself because I'm sure, knowing me as I do, it would have been aggravation unlimited. Midas did a beautiful job for $109., well worth it. Once again the Magnas sound great, look great, and turn heads.

My opinion is that you can buy them from Performance Peddler with confidence, he shipped them via UPS quickly (it's a huge box) and sent me both payment and shipment confirmations by email.
