Just Installed Magnaflow Mufflers

What's wrong with this picture?

After I got my Magnaflow's, I opened the box and took the bubble wrap off one of them, the driver's side as it turned out, and it looked great. I didn't have time to immediately install them, so I just put it aside.

When it came time to install, I got the car ready and went under and sawed off the passenger side muffler, and removed the bubble wrap on the ther muffler. Guess what? The tips on that muffler were on upside down! I was disgusted. There I was: no way to put the OEM muffler back on, and a defective Magnaflow the only thing available. So, what to do? I decided to go ahead and install the driver's side muffler too. And it sticks out a good 3 inches farther than the passenger side.

Sound: Great at idle and highway speeds. Big resonance between 1200-1800 rpm around town. This ain't gonna work. This is my daily driver. Magnaflows may be okay for weekends, but I wouldn't even do that.

So, I called Performance Peddler and they agreed to a refund when I send them back. I got off work a bit early and had a muffler shop weld the OEM's right back where they came from, and that's where they're gonna stay.

Maybe a Corsa cat-back would suit me, but I'm keeping my $900.

Disappointed with the Magnas

Sorry that you did not have the same luck that I have with the Magnas. You are the second person on the web that has conveyed bad luck with them. Even in the 1200-1800 rpm range, the resonace is not that bad in my car. I has a sound that I really like; no objectional at all. Anyway good luck with your next attempt.

Yea if I drove my car like 12k + at year or something I might not be able to deal with it all the time. Good luck on your next purchace.

Sorry to hear that happen to you Kenwa. I would have been HOT. Your resonence problem makes me wonder though. I'd like to know if there are differences on the inside of the mufflers from one to another. The reason I say that is, mine are a little to quiet for me. The resonence was much less then what I was expecting. Also I think the overall volume is just a little to low. I think they are put together well though, and the tone is wonderfull. Maybe we all just hear sounds differently, if you know what I mean. I'm hoping the volume will go up when I DX the resonator.

It's been almost exactly 1 year now since I bought the Vette, and I've put 17,000 miles on it. Not typical usage, but not unheard of.

It could be that a set of Magnaflow's vary from another in sound. They definitely vary in fit. Like mine, several people have complained about one side sticking out farther than the other. That's not a good sign to me, along with the noise, so I went for the refund.

No harm done. We live and learn.
