Planet 67 gets under way...

Bob-
You are one energetic guy. I didn't have that much energy when I was young! Wow!

Thanks, Jim. As I've said before, the last three years with a personal trainer have made a tremendous difference. Plus, I've always enjoyed doing things for myself.

:beer

P.S. Another day lost to rain. :mad

John,

Yes, the plan is still to use Celfort panels.

ConcreteDisplay.jpg

Excellent - that makes all the difference in the world, makes for a dry, warm floor, and ensures zero moisture migration so an epoxy coating won't lift if you choose to go that route (I did). :)

Bob, believe it or not, I just came across this thread for the first time. For the past hour or so, I've seen from the first post & pictures up to now.

...WOW!!!
1) Doing this all (most of it) yourself?
2) Having the knowledge to do all this?
3) Knowing how to do it correctly?

...WOW.... :BOW
Totally awesome to be able to do a project like that! :upthumbs I was happy just to be able to successfully install ceiling speakers in Monica's massage room! :L

Thanks, Andre. As you've read, I got a lot of good advice from folks in this thread. :beer

I get to play on the skidsteer again this weekend. Five more loads delivered today.

That should get me up to the insulation level......then comes the concrete. :thumb

For all you lurkers out there, taking notes for your own build, here's what I got done this past weekend..........in spite of all that rain from IKE. :thumb

The "A" Gravel, which is half-sand, compacts very nicely. Just a bit of water from the hose and fire up the diesel compactor. :beer

Around the perimeter, it took between 3 and 4 feet of fill in most places, almost down to the footings. In the centre, it took 2 feet in some place, and 6" in others, as I didn't scoop out the centre when excavating.........no need to.

Next, it was time to spread a 6" layer of 'clear' 3/4" gravel.

I don't mind telling you that after many hours of raking, I was bushed. Slept like a baby last night. :D

This evening, I'll lay down the 6mil vapour barrier, and start placing the Celfort panels in place. The concrete gets poured any day now. It'll take approximately 18 cu.yds. :W

Man..!! gotta give you credit...Wow.
:beer

Thanks, Mark.

I picked up the vapour barrier and expansion joints this morning. I'll have to take the trailer for the Celfort panels.

Y'all please note the "correct" spelling of vapour.......especially Patrick. I bet he's lurking around here somewhere. ;LOL

You're telling me! I will be sleeping like a baby tonight from all the reading...:L Like Andre stated....:BOW;worship:bowrofl

After all the compacting of the sand and gravel, layer upon layer, the floor feels like concrete already.............and it hasn't been poured yet. :L

Late this afternoon, I got the vapour barrier laid down and taped. This view is somewhat distorted by using the panoramic feature on the camera to get it all in one photo.

Tomorrow, I'll install the Celfort insulation and the expansion joints. If all goes as planned, the concrete trucks roll in Friday morning. And, yes, I'm having great fun. :thumb

Damm ..you got 9 bazillon dollars under the concrete...So I guess this is the last house your buying unless you can figure out how to scoop up that 46 tons of floor and move it.;LOL

Mark,

My Supreme Commander tells me, "Are you sure you're not moving into that new building?". ;LOL

Huh? Just because I've got a fridge, big-screen TV, computer, wood stove, etc., all lined up? And, just because it'll be warm and toasty? Nah! :D

Seventeen minutes and two seconds of sweet craziness from Iron Butterfly. ;LOL

You can have a corner for free, my Jewish friend. In fact, if you bring your equipment, I'll even wear a Yarmulke. :upthumbs

I picked up the under-slab insulation this morning. This is what $1,450 worth looks like. :Silly

Sounds Like you got more in the floor then in the wood for the building. Wow...yers ago ..you leveled out the ground..dropped some pea gravel and poured the concrete. Of course I'm no expert but it just seems like you have to really prep the ground so the concrete stays level and doesn't crack or change in any way.

Doe you have a sump pump system with the trough around the perimiter in case you get some water in side?

No sump pump, Mark. I built the shop higher than the surrounding ground; 3.5' higher in some places.

For water to get in it would have to paddle uphill. :D

Did you consult with a construction engineer for the design of the floor? Or did you research the tech stuff yourself. The rest of the framig looks exteamley stong.

With all that internal space and no columns in the open space, I guess the roof truss system is distributing the load. I like the idea of the wide open space. Excellent design.

:beer

Looks like you are just about ready to put on the boots and slosh around in concrete. :w
Let the concrete trucks start rolling in.
