i am in the process of changing out my bose (it died)
any way i read a thread about u guys saying about the 1k ohm resistor
i have removed my bose system speakers, cdm and head unit

i can not find the grey/black and the purple/white wires
my question is are them wires in the same plug as the power, ignission power, and ant?
i looked on the cdm and it looks like they should have been in that plug

thanks any help would be apriciated

p.s. i am thinking if they are not there maybe i wont have to add the resistors in there

I wish I could be of more help but I had an installer do my deck. Once the deck was installed, that is when the SYS began to flash & I knew I had a problem. Learned of the "resistor fix" here on the forum, so I printed out the "fix" and brought it to my installer along w/ the resistors. He pulled the deck in order to get to the wires, added the resistors & I was good to go. Not sure which plug but on my '96, w/ the printed instructions, my installer had no problem finding the wires...

That's all I got man,
Jeff

btw...just realized that your's is a '91. From what I remember, the wire colors are not the same for the earlier years hence that is why you are not finding those colored wires. Somehow you need to figure out which wires relate to your model year.

thanks for the reply
some one said dont worry about it unless it happens
i guess it happens on some and dont happen on some others

Yeah, I'd probably just put her together & see what pops up...hopefully nothing. Worst case scenario, you gotta get in there and do the "fix". Even when i brought my car back to the installer, he had the problem corrected in no time...so obviously it's not a serious PITA to do.

Cya,
Jeff

All you have to do is hook the new speakers up to the existing speaker wires. Install the head unit with the wire harness and then turn it on. You should have sound instantly from the speakers.

Hi,

I do not think that you will have a problem with the SYS light on a 91.

I would run new wires leaving the original harness uncut in case someone wants to return the car to original specs one day.

If your new head has built in power amps you should pick up power for the head unit at the fuse block. The Bose head unit had no power amps so the power cable to it was low current.

If you need a wiring diagram I can PM one to you next week.

changing out my bose (it died)

Just swapped out my Bose Gold on a 92. Maybe your 91 is the same. The wires your looking for attach to the head unit. There are two plugs, on one of the connectors you will see the purple wire and two gray wires. They are in slot 2,3 and 4. There is nothing in the first position.
The Tuner (under the glove box, under the duck work) has the Antenna, power, ignition power, ground and power antenna connectors.
I also taped in to a wire mark "Illumation analog" or something. This wire was connected to the head unit. Have not had a chance to test it at night, but in the day light it works great. The wires your going to hook up to a 1K resistor and ignition power are for digital illumation.
Using Bose wires to drive your speakers? I don't know, maybe. I ran RCA plugs in the storage bin (behine passanger seat) and install some amps. Ran 14 gage to the speakers.
This is a huge job. spent a week on it. fabricating speaker boxes, removed every carpet, seat, dash panel and battery. Looks like a stock system other than the Alpine deck 6X9 rears 5 1/4 up front.
