SLP Cold air kit....Any opinions?

Is this worth the $215. I'm not looking for extra HP mostly just a little more free flowing air. All opinions are welcome.

This Underhood Cold Air Induction Package for 1992-1996 LT1/LT4 Corvettes and 1990-1995 ZR1's will provide up to 20 additional horsepower depending upon your application. The kit is constructed from 304 stainless steel tubing and is black powder-coated for a superior appearance. It includes three reusable, high-flow, cone-type air filters, and includes all the necessary hardware and instructions for an easy, bolt-on installation.

It's at corvette central pn # 154566 price $249. I'v been looking at it also.

i bought it. the price is worth the wow factor when i pop open my hood. i cut out a portion of that panel that lies underneath. so now there is air flowing directly into the 3 filters. its fiberglass. wear gloves.

I don't want to make an perminate mods. It needs to go back to stock. What panel do you mean?

I bought one mainly because I liked the way it looks. I think most will say it may be good for a few xtra HP but not 20. If you like the way it looks , buy it, if you just want HP a cut lid is cheaper. If you decide to buy try neweraperformance, they sell on ebay. They have a good price. Good luck, Guy

I bought it because the seal around the filters is much better than stock. As far as HP, I don't believe a single word in any sales catalog about increases. I have added stuff, taken away stuff and dynoed on several occasions. Rule of thumb - 'If one can modify without busting a knuckle, the new part ain't gonna help!'

Oh yeah, a little sweat and an oily mess help tremendously toward HP improvements......

when you take off the stock gm air filter housing you will see a flat board or panel underneath. the air filter rests on it. they say these cars are bottom breathers. thats not entirely true. air does hit the radiator and ac condenser, but air does not hit the air filter. you have to cut that panel or shroud to get air to the filter. i know some one in here can 'splain it better than me.

I get what your saying but I don't think I want to cut anything on mine. I've been keeping this ride stock. I have a 70 GTO I'm doing a resto on. That's going to be the rod'. LOL

I have the "SLP" and IMHO it's a great setup for my car. I'm not so sure about the performance gains but my LT4 breathes better and seems more responsive. Not to mention, it's well made and looks good under the hood. Do a SEARCH on the SLP "Claw" and you will find some good info as well as (easy) install tactics.

To "'splain it better"....when you cut that panel, you allow cooling air to bypass the radiator and flow over the cooling stack into the engine compartment.

C4s already are cooling-challenged so cutting that panel out doesn't make much sense...that is, unless, one lives in Alaska or the U.P of Michigan.

Was the cooling of the C4 every thought off during the design process? If so what chages were proposed to change it or make it better? It just seems to me that corvette is so ahead of it's time, to make that kind of move.

How about the Vortex Rammer Air system? I've heard a lot of good things about that, but it's another pricey system.

I think it was pretty good for the day. The C4's are 20 years old now! Maybe compared to the cars out there today, C4's are starting to lag in technology but any 20 year old car will.

On mine I did the K&N with the "open" housing(around $80.00). This in combo with the "power ducts" which are the smooth air intake hoses($65.00 a piece), a larger MAF housing($50.00) and a B&M 52mm throttle body (around $300.00). This combo of all of this makes th difference. A good flowing exhaust with let the engine breathe out as well as it takes in air. The combo of everything makes A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!!! It is a monster!! Not to mention a few quick turns of the wrench and it is all stock, as good as new!!! If you just want to mess with the air filter to start I would go with the K&N fliter with the open housing that looks stock all from Mid America. To keep it stock looking and reversable is well worth any minor gain claim by other high$$ systems.

I did the Ram Air about two years ago. I did notice a big difference after 40 mph or so. I know the L98 has alot of torque, but after 60 or so I think that drops off. The Ram air really helps out keep the car pulling hard to at least 100 mph.

I think the C4 was way ahead of it's time. I mean what car out there in 84 could compete with the "New Vette". I guess some things are just overlooked, during the design process. I guess every car can be improved on.
