Vette struck by lightning

Just got word that all of the "currently visible" repairs have been made and the car is running and ready to pick up. I will keep you guys up to date on what I find when I get there this weekend.

The bill still has to be settled but that is all for now.

I will be looking to GMJunkie for future work and possibly a double check on what has been done already. Like I said I'll let you guys know as soon as I do.

Who knows- you may not have any problems. Perhaps the shop really fixed everything that was wrong.

Lightning is a funny thing sometimes in the way it effects stuff. When I was a kid, lightning struck our house (roof on a 3 story) and there were burn marks around the wall paper seams in the 1st floor foyer and a couple of damaged shingles.;shrug

Sure is one heck of a story though! :W

I wish that was the case KANE....

However, when I picked the car up on Sunday, it still has some problems. :W

The car does currently seem to be running properly. :D

For starters the battery was dead when I arrived at the shop (C&O Motors in St Albans WV), so it had to be jumped. Checked to see if a light was left on and no such luck, nor were there any other easily explainable drainage finds.

For the sake of getting the car away from that shop I took it home. On the way I found several other issues ranging from dash and courtesy lights flashing at random and often to ABS and ASR issues.

The lights even continued to flash when parked and after the car was turned off.

I placed a call to GMJunkie only moments ago, and left a message in hopes of getting the car to him, for the completion of the work.

I'll continue to keep you updated.

Please feel free to boycott and spread the word that no one should ever take a Vette to C&O Motors in St. Albans WV.

I have had State Farm for over 20 yrs. Never have I had a problem with any claim. From what I have read here it is more a repair shop issue than an insurance company issue.

If you read closely you will see that State Farms sees the incompetence of the repair shop and has to be careful that it isn't ripping off them or the car owner. It appears the repair shop succeeded anyhow.

For the most part I have had no problems with the way that State Farm has handled the case.

A see I think that C&O Motors did succeed in ripping off both State Farm and to a slightly lesser extent me. They got money out of State Farm and time from me.

But I'm online this morning to make some sort of travel arangments to get this car to GMJunkie, and then things should be a little less :W and :bash and ;shrug and :ohnoes

Well,It MDkyleZ made it here without any major problems, other than interior strobe lighting and a "Service Engine Soon" light with a few codes!!
First Thing I'm doing is clean and inspecting EVERY GROUND!!!There is evidence of a little Extra Hot fire jumping around under the hood!:L:L:LThe car runs really well for having Right bank and Left bank O2 SW1 codes, and Left bank O2 SW2 codes!!I'm going to haft to think on this a little,it has some purdy weird things happening in Data mode!!;shrug;shrug;shrug
But I'll figure it out,I'm a GMJunkie!!:L

Jesse or MDkyleZ-

Was the ECM replaced after Zeus touched it? :L

The part about the codes is intriguing...;squint:

The trip from WV went fairly well. No major problems.

I was nice to finally meet Jesse, and I know that my Vette is in good hands.

He should have a great time trying to figure this one out.

No it was not.

ECM, BCM... :W

Well, we'll see what Jesse comes up with - but I'd have to say a terawatt of electricity could do some funny things- if even only for 30 microseconds.

Jesse is one of the most honest and generous guys I have ever met. He's forgotten more than we'll ever know. I spoke with him last night, I have every confidence that he'll have the car repaired properly. We discussed your car at length. Being in aircraft avionics for 25 years and seeing many aircraft lightning strikes your car is not very different. He's got some great tricks up his sleeve and he's on the right track.

My two cents are these. I think there may be several different things he may find. As he indicated, fried grounds. Look for any melted wires or pitting around the grounds. Look for any indication of burned-off oil where there are any grounds. When we spoke he said the O2 sensors were operating fine but it will only run in open loop that tells me that the ECM is not getting the signal from them because of grounds, fried wires, or more likely the boards in the ECM. He said he found the source of a few other problems. It is just a matter of fixing one problem and then chasing another one till it passes all the tests. His troubleshooting is excellent. If that happened to me first I'd thank God that I'm still alive, then I'd call Jesse.

He is very thorough. With his diagnostic computers you're in good hands.
