I have a 79 corvette but i like the 68 and 69 the most.
I coudn't afford one 6 years a go.:(

'79 sucks !!
Yea - right.
Pull along side mine anytime. Road or track.
'78 and '79 have the best looking body style out of ALL Vettes.
And I am sure I will teach 95% of the Vettes on the road a lesson.
Early with chrome = chrome is ugly.
'80-82 = ugly chin beards
newer C4 = looks like a Fiero

C5 - well, ....... I'd back down here, they are awesome looking.
Just my opinion, of course.

Fiero...riiiight :eyerole I doubt 400hp is going to teach 95% of Vettes a lesson.

FWIW My first Vette was a 75 L-48, and my fav C3 is still a big block 68-69.

73.... Chrome bumpers rule!

too easy to get a late model...turn way too many heads in an early shark.....68 thru 73 the best in the bunch by any standard..73 was the closest to what Zora had in mind as the perfect vette.

and that will be the day that i ever say any corvette sucks...a corvette is a thing of beauty no matter what the year or color or anything...it the best thing ever produced by the hard workin American auto worker...no vette sucks in my opinion ...just prefer the early models over the older sharks.

Oh Really?
Show me your timeslip. I'll be happy to show you mine!!
400 hp ??? haha, "maybe"...then again, maybe not!

12.3 @ 107 mph, 3 YEARS ago.
And that is without the JUICE.
Which by the way, is now installed.
My Vette is a tad faster now, just a tad!

How many 12 second street Vettes can you count on your hand?
I intend to plant a solid 11.3 down this summer on the bottle.

And yes, the C4 does indeed look like a Fiero, or any of a million jap riceburners, IMHO.

I am not picking on you personally, but I myself, do not and would not want a C4.
They just don't have any personallity, too bland, too fieroish.
Again, IMHO only, of course

You are quite a brave man, Jacko. But I agree, 78-79...nothing can beat them. :) Of course, my '78, on the other hand, is totally stock, pumping out 185 hp. :D

Yea Stallion, I either am a brave man or stupid.
But it bugs the hell out of me to see our 78's and 79s rated so low.
And I am not trying to start a fight here with anybody.
I just like what I like.
I can't convince people to like the same. I don't expect them too.
But ..... I don't think the poll is accurate.
Maybe I am wrong, but the body style is flat out superb to any other car ever made, IMHO.
I can afford to own any Vette I desire, I am fortunate.
And I will be buying another, probably a C5, in the very near future.
But I can not be convinced that those '78 and '79 Vettes are rated at the bottom.
They are small, light, handle decent, and those curves and the fastback - without all the chrome..... they are what a Sports Car is all about. The fluid and graceful, yet extremely aggressive lines of those years just makes me drool.
Ahhhh... I think I have said enough about this.
It is all in a persons personal taste.
Hey, there are people who think the BugEye and VW Beetle have fantastic looks.
It's all good.

The reason these cars were rated lower may have to do with them being the lowest HP rated sharks and the most common due to production levels. I give credit to GM for not going to a 6 or 4 like Ford did during this gas-crises period and with 4 wheel disc brakes and 4 wheel independent suspension the vettes of these years still outperformed other American cars. Lack of power and no ragtops hurt these models. You can often buy a 75-79 here for as little as 4kUS$ and I have seen them as low as !=1800.00 in good running condition.
My brother has a 68 427 Mako and that's the one I voted for...

When those 68 stingrays came out the folks whom owned the 63's could'nt give them away. I voted for the 68-69's

I voted for the '72, my first new Corvette. I fell in love with the style from 1968 on and was able to buy one in '72. It was the last steel bumpered car, front and back, and was cool in Ontario Orange Firemist.

Jacko, I couldn't have said it better. I agree with you 110%. There is nothing about the '78 and '79 Vettes that is undesirable. And if I was to buy another Vette (which I will...in the future), I would definitely buy another on of the '78 '79 era. They are definitely the best in my opinion. Our Vettes are awesome!! :D

Stallion and Jacko, personally, I have always held an affinity in my heart for the 78 and 79 Vette. I have to agree with you that the poll may not be representative. Hey, let's face it, the owners of the 78's and 79's are probably not online, they're probably out there driving! :Steer

I must get some kind of award for getting a guy to post for the first time that's been registered since Feb/03?:L

Why is the 78 and 79 corvette so special for some of you?
I've got a 79 myself and i'm happy but i can't see why they are more special than an other shark.;shrug

hmmm Here is an old poll that shows numbers for each year of the C3..

Enjoy ;) C3 Poll... Ah yes Old

Bud
