Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Why haven't you bought a C6 yet?

Well for me here is the story

With the cost of a fully loaded convertable (the only reason I would up grade to the C6 is because of all of the new Kizmos in it) but with its msrp coming in close to what the Cadillac XLR'S are selling for,We may not get a C6 for a long time. We maybe keeping the C5 and maybe purchasing the XLR.

I love the new C6 with all of its goodies and the addtional 50 HP.I have not taken one for a ride yet but I normally never do take a new car for a ride before I buy them I am so excited driving a new car I cant tell if it drives good or bad,I am just more concerned on how comfortable the seats are and if you have an ashtray in the car that you can use. As for my wife she is just pleased as punch with the C5 but she does not like the looks of the C6. (it reminds her of my partners new Viper) but she would love to have the XLR.

:mad Motorman there are NO TERRIBLE CORVETTES! If you feel that a C4 is such an awful vehicle then obviously you are not a real Vette lover. C4's are resonably priced right now and offer tremendous bang for the buck for the first time Vette buyer. I had a 77 that I loved but had to sell her due to high insurance(was only 21 when I owned her). When I got my 84 it was because I wanted to have a Vette again and the price of entry was in my budget. I would have loved to have a mid 70's shark again but the prices were a bit more than I had(lost 4600 bucks to a Vette scammer so was shorted alot of my money). I love my 84 and could not see myself without it. I am too spoiled now by the Z51 suspensions razor sharp handling.

Sorry for the rant guys but that comment bothered me alot. I love all Vettes.

the reason i said that is because everybody is coming up with reasons that the C-6 is not selling as well as the C-5 when it came out. my reason is the C-5 was such a improvement over the C-4 once you drove a C-5 or read the magazines about how the C-5 fixed all the things that was was wrong with the C-4 it was a no brainer. the changes between the C-6 and the C-5 is not that severe because the C-5 did not need that many fixes because it was very very good to start with but the changes that were made are worth the move up. as far as not beeing a corvette lover you did not check out my sig because back in the 50s and 60s corvettes were not the most refined car on the market. they filled up with water when it rained,the brakes were bad and they steered like trucks because the front suspension on the C-1s were from a sedan delivery truck. when you drove a corvette back then it was not because you were looking for refinement

I saw your sig with all the Vettes you have owned. There is a difference between a Corvette owner and a Corvette Lover. To a Corvette Lover all Vettes are good cars. Why else would we own them.

back in the early days of the corvette you HAD to love to own one because of the little problems i pointed out before. a lot of people ask me "do you wish you had those older corvettes back",and i had 63 SWC,1965 396 that i flew to st louis to pick up at the factory and a 66 450 HP 427. i tell them "NO" because i got rid of them to get a better one. the only car i wish i had back was my 68 Z-28 camaro that had all the good stuff because it would be worth 150 K today and that car was a blast to drive,7800 RPM in 4 th gear + 161 MPH and that was fast back then.

I agree with you Roadsterguy, I had a C4 ('87 coupe) before my C5 and I loved it from the first to the last day!!! Remember, when the C4 debued, it was a huge technological leap over the C3...it was quite the car of its day, and I will add, can still hold it own! It was proud to have it under me for many miles!

Well said Dave!:beer ..............Vettes push on in technology and design. Always have and always will I guess. What's interesting in this thread is the emotional tug owners feel between their present C5 Corvette and the newer technology and look of the C6. For many C5 owners this tug appears to be pulling pretty strongly back towards their present car......that certainly says something quite positive about the C5 ....I always new it was a great car. This just kind of backs that up.
Hey, maybe a little owner/car "bonding" is a cool thing..........

Hi Bluecoupe,

You started quite an interesting thread. My question is, why are you still hanging on to your '01?

:eek Why was she left out in the SNOW? I think I'm gonna cry...
Lets see how many reasons I can come up with:
1) Cheapest car I own.
2) It is my daily driver.
3) They don't melt.
4) If the car couldn't handle it, I would have already sold it for something that could.
5) It is "Just a car". And to prove that point, have an accident in one. And then watch how many people say "Cars can be replaced, lives can't".
6) I didn't want my Volvo S80 T6 to get lonely.

The Corvette is a nice car, don't get my wrong. But I see no point in treating it any different than any other car that own or have owned. I bought it to drive. Not to look cool, not to be better than the next guy. Simply put, for $40K it was only one of two sports car that could handle my long legs and had the handling/power I wanted at the time. The other, BMW Z4, just didn't make me feel safe due to its smaller size. And yes I do plan on keeping this C5 for a very long time and will probably even buy a C3 once the kids are out of the house (6 more years). And it will be outside, just like the C5. Because it too is just a car when it is all said and done.

Cannot agree with you more Skull One. I too bought my Vette to drive. If I wanted something to take up space in my garage or something just to look at I would've bought a model.

Dos to Windows 95 versus Windows 2000 to Windows XP

I think the best way to sum this up is to look at the comparison of the transition from Dos to Windows 95 versus Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Not to bash the C4, but the C5 was light years ahead of the C4. I didn't even like Vette's until the C5. When Windows 95 came out it was light years ahead of Dos for the average user and sold like hotcakes. The C5 to C6 will most likely be more like the transition from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Many people are still very happy with 2000, it meets their needs and does the job well and they may not care for the added features of XP which was built on the 2000 core. I think the C6 can be seen in very much the same light. Also keep in mind the time of year ie. Christmas and Cold weather across the country. I like both the C5 and C6 but I can't wait to order a C6 Z06 and pick it up in Bowling Green when I pay off my C5.

I never felt the C5 was that much better than the C4. I like the C5 and have driven a few but they feel more bloated to me than a C4. They were slightly faster thn the C4 save for the ZR1 and LT4 and the handling was not that much better than what I thought it should be. Like I said before in other topics the C5 to me was more of a Hi performance GT where as previous Vette versions were more snug sports car type.

Many folks have done what I have, looked at both side by side, drove 'em... some went for the C6 but a fair number also are going the way I did, buying an '04, one of the last C5's. Obviously none of those folks are in the group willing to trade even for a C6. They had they option in front of them and decided the C5 was more of the type of vette they wanted. The C5 Z06 screams 'corvette' to me, it is awesome!
I feel the same as you, I had the option of a C6 but I liked the C5 more so that's what I bought. I like the pop up headlights more than the fixed ones and I don't like the back end of the C6. The last year of any series is the best and most refined, the first always has issues to be worked out. Also a big plus was the discounted price for year end. I am happy with my C5 and it does scream "Corvette". I do look forward to see the new Zo6 and what changes are made after all the rumors about it and hope it will not be out of reach price wise.

Hi Frank,
1) I don't have another $48,000.00 (the bottom line on my 2003 Vette);
2) Electron Blue Metallic is not a color option;
3) I cannot find them in my neck of the woods. A large Chevy dealer rep said they had 4 05 Vettes that just sold. Right.;
4) I cannot afford a divorce................... yet;
5) The winters are bad enough. It would be even more depressing if I had 2 Vettes put away for the winter;
6) My next door neighbor would then buy one.............. used. He now has a 1998 Vette;
7) I'm still enjoying the 2003 Vette that I have.
A Corvette Peace, Merry Christmas (I hope I offended someone), and Happy New Year To All,

Have over 3,000 happy, toruble free miles on my C6 and love it!

Unfortunately, it's stored for the winter. :(

Btw, sold my '02 Z06 last fall to be able to buy a c6...this car will be for sale next year to get the then new C6 Z06!

I will consider a c-6 convertible in 2006... IF .... they are available with 450 or more ponies. Otherwise, I will go elsewhere.

That's great Zippy, congratulations, but it doesn't really pertain to this question; "Why haven't you (C5 owners) bought a C6 yet?" Could you tell us the answer to WHY you sold your Z06 (C5) for a new C6? It would be interesting to get your take on it. You also said you'll be selling the C6 for a Z06(C6) soon. Were you disappointed driving the C6 after the (C5) Z06?

Thanks,
Frank (bluecoupe)

Having driven Corvettes since the mid-seventies, I found that the C5 was a vastly improved car but EQUALLY SO was the C4 over the C3!
