Why haven't you bought a C6 yet?

I will consider a c-6 convertible in 2006... IF .... they are available with 450 or more ponies. Otherwise, I will go elsewhere.

Start looking now, because the convertible is already released with 400HP. You will not see a 50HP rise from the first model year.

Refined

So I guess I should be surprised at the "refinement" of the C6. When was the last time a new model stepped backward as far as advancements????
For example, Keyless entry was not good enough. Now I can just walk next to the car and unlock the door regardless of whether I want the door unlocked. I would not get a C6 til I can make the door unlock by just wishing it would happen as I sit a the kitchen table!!!
I would not trade my 69 Firebird for a 2002..even if it had 6 computers operating the traction control.
It all depends on what you enjoy. And there certainly is no shortage of people who simply want to say they have the "newest".

>>>>>>the convertible is already released with 400HP. You will not see a 50HP rise from the first model year.<<<<<<

That is a shame. Why is Chevy so conservative with the convertibles? Mercedes and Dodge are willing to put 500 HP in ragtops, why not Chevy?

I am not convinced the quality and reliability of the C6 has improved over the C5.

My 1999 C5 coupe (my third Corvette) has experienced 20 separate defects during the first 33,000 miles, including three separate breakdowns (while under the new car warranty) and two safety recalls. Many of the defects were common, well known defects that took Chevrolet a long time to correct.

My beliefs are reinforced after reading about the C6 six-speed transmission problems and the safety recall for a potential defective braking system. I am afraid that the C6 will be plagued by common problems that will take Chevrolet a long time to correct.

That's great Zippy, congratulations, but it doesn't really pertain to this question; "Why haven't you (C5 owners) bought a C6 yet?" Could you tell us the answer to WHY you sold your Z06 (C5) for a new C6? It would be interesting to get your take on it. You also said you'll be selling the C6 for a Z06(C6) soon. Were you disappointed driving the C6 after the (C5) Z06?

Thanks,
Frank (bluecoupe)
Frank: I sold my '94 ZR1 to buy a '99 Convert, sold it to buy a 2000 convert;, sold that one to buy a 2001 Z06, sold that to buy a 2002 Z06. Sold the '02 Zee to buy a 2005 C6. See a trend here? I like new cars, and sell one to move on to the next one.

No, am not disappointed in the C6...I plan to get the C6 Z06 because of the improvements such as 500 hp, lighter weight, brembo brakes, aluminum frame, wider tires and fender flares, so on.

Hope this answers your questions.

Btw, I'm thinking of selling my daily driver for something new....Currently have a 2004 GMC Envoy with 25,000 miles on it...time for a change!

the reason i said that is because everybody is coming up with reasons that the C-6 is not selling as well as the C-5 when it came out. my reason is the C-5 was such a improvement over the C-4 once you drove a C-5 or read the magazines about how the C-5 fixed all the things that was was wrong with the C-4 it was a no brainer. the changes between the C-6 and the C-5 is not that severe because the C-5 did not need that many fixes because it was very very good to start with but the changes that were made are worth the move up. as far as not beeing a corvette lover you did not check out my sig because back in the 50s and 60s corvettes were not the most refined ...car on the market. they filled up with water when it rained, the brakes were bad and they steered like trucks because the front suspension on the C-1s were from a sedan delivery truck. when you drove a corvette back then it was not because you were looking for refinement
Wouldn't want to be stuck with a 67 BB when I could upgrade to a World Supercar in 1984.

We like, we bought

We have bought three, one for two of my sons and one for dad. We have owned all series since the 68 body style. However, I did not think of the Corvette as a world class sports car, especially the mid 70s to the mid 80s. That is not the case with the C6, it is a lot faster than the C5s with an upgraded suspension to enable excellent handling. It still drives a little heavy, and I don't like the 1-4 shifts, but hey, keep your foot in it, and it is not a problem. Maybe we are the minority, but we like them and I had moved away from Corvettes to BMWs and Porsches. This is a worthy car for drivers and by comparison it is cheap.

Rumor

I hear they are only adding one refinement for 2007.... they have engineered this new radio volume knob that fits soo much better in your hand. Not sure if it is worth trading your 2005 but you only live once.

it will unlock only if you set it to unlock when you walk by.

i get a big bang out of people who do not own a C-6 telling every one what is wrong. there was no recall on the trans because they found out there was no problem and there has been no recall on the brakes. i my opinion the steering lock problem was cause by people pulling on the steering wheel after it was locked to get out of the car and causing the binding problem. the early 2000 impala had the steering lock and they never did a recall because there was no problem with the lock on the impala. they did away with the lock on ther later models because they went to a trans lock that locked the trans in park till you turned on the ignition the same as the auto trans corvettes including the C-6. i had 3 C-5s 2 with steering locks and never had a problem

I read the C5 Z06 still out performs the regular C6 so I though that it may have inflenced your descision to sell so soon. Buying new car at will is a great hobby if you can afford it. Good for you.

i have owned 10 new corvettes but i have friends that have had 3 or 4 wives.i have found out it is cheaper for me to keep my wife for 46 years and buy more corvettes. :D

I really love the looks and features of the C6, but I want to wait until next year when the Z06 is available. Then I'll either go for it or another conv.

C5 #1 in bang for the buck

I decided to buy my 03 c5 vert in March because they were not due to release the c6 vert for another full year. Having an 03 has alot of advantages though. For one the 50th aniversery simbols and 03 is a bench mark year for covette. I got a great deal for my vert. Fully loaded I paid 42k and it only had 2k miles. If you look at the price style and power of the c5, its still a better buy (for the budget minded). I have already gotten to enjoy my first corvette for a year now and if I had waited I would have lost that time. There were only 2 differences that had me peaked: #1. 50 more hp #2. the quieter cabin, but you can easily tweek an engine and quiet the cabin for much less than your $10,000 difference. I am sure in time the c6 will be a better value but for now its only for those with more expendable income.

I own a C5 piece of junk....why make the same mistake twice?? It's a Chevrolet....the same company that makes Cavaliers.

It seems like there are many C6s sitting unsold at Chevy Dealers even though some are offering fairly large discounts. Considering all the improvements and the massive media hype I would have thought people would be buying any C6 they could get their hands on.

Why haven't you C5 owners traded up to a C6 yet? Please don't just say you can't afford it. You found a way to afford your C5. Please think about the question. All facts, opinions and guesses are appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Frank (bluecoupe)

Amen. It is definitely "cheaper to keep her". I've Owned 3 Vettes, 7 Harleys, 2 Triumphs, Thirty years with the same wife and we're still on our honeymoon. Having my toys has helped me stay sane.

Oh I see, you mean like the one I drove the heck out of nearly every day for 15 years and 190k miles that I sold last year and is still being driven every day by a teenager down the block? The one that still runs like a top? Yeah, I'd say that's a nice dependable car, but then that's just my opinion.
