It was back to the paintshop today for a redo of the items I mentioned earlier. One of the main items was the rear bumper fit and it looks like we now have that pretty well sorted out. Then, it'll be time to repair that crack that resulted from tightening the driver's rear bumper incorrectly.

Also, we'll bond the induction fiberglass on the underside of the hood and correct some issues at the headlight buckets. The simple act of removing the headlight motor allowed the driver's side bucket to move into a more correct position. I'll have to consult with Fuelie about what the reason could possibly be. :confused

I spent the day removing the headlight bucket guts, rear bumpers, lower rear valance, mirrors, antenna, gas cap and trim, wiper grills, license trim and lighting, etc. to get ready for a complete wet-sanding and more clear.

I'm trying to imagine how much deeper that red can get, but Ron tells me, "Wait and see!" :D

The goal is to get it back home by next Wednesday or Thursday.

On my way to the paint shop this morning, I decided it was time for 67HEAVEN to stretch her legs a bit, so out on the Freeway we went.

As I accelerated along the on ramp (to the 401 westbound), a trucker in the middle lane gave me three long and loud pulls on the air horn. Since it's only got 30 miles on a completely new drivetrain (engine, transmission, driveshaft, differential, U-joints), I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and I just squeezed a little bit on the loud pedal. :D But I did wave out the open window. :w

Although I only had to travel two exits to the turn off to the paint shop, I did come up quickly on a blue Subaru WRX STi in the passing lane. Funny how he pulled over and slowed down immediately. Just as well.........remember.......only 30 miles. :bu

If you could get your car down to Texas I'd be glad to help you break it in quicker! (20 deg C and beautiful) :D

ONLY 470 MORE TO GO cant wait to read that post. You put in a msd box with a rev limiter right?

If yes just pop in a chip about 300rpm less then your peak hp (they spool past the high rpm limit a tad)

Keep your foot to the floor and bounce the power shifts off the rev limiter.I am sure youll run out of road or nerves before you can get it into fourth

IH2LOSE I like the way you think....

Bob you will burn thru those 500 mile like it is nothing.. I could only not put my foot into until I had a couple hundred on mine. Just get out there and tool around once you get her back.

Dave..

Don't worry folks.....I will make sure that he puts the miles on as soon as possible.
Then we can go for a serious ride or two:D

Oh trust me it was all I could do not to blast it right after I broke mine in. I probably only got 250 mi on mine before I let her rip.....

Come on Bob lay the hammer down...

500 Mi Break In

On a new engine, transmission, differential it takes a little time for the moving parts to seat together and there is another factor most people aren't aware of. The oils, engine/transmission/differentianl are contamineted with microscopic pieces of metal from the moving parts seating together. Get some miles on it change the oils in everything and go have some fun. Those rev limiters are a must have for a bunch of hp. John

I changed my oil after break-in an about 50 soft miles. It was friggin nasty and milky from the moly lube. I then drove another 50 soft miles and started having some fun!! Hope I didn't screw anythng up ;)

Now I have to stomp on it at least once every time I drive it.

Boy, you guys that insist on everything perfect are something else! :L

I had the same thing happen on the passenger side rear bumper. A little adjustment on the bumper brace got it closer to the inner fender to avoid pulling and cracking the fiberglass. I guess I was a little over zealous to get them on. :eyerole

Be careful "breaking" that thing in - I think that term may have resulted from someone's unfortunate experience.........:Steer You'll be able to get on it soon enough. :bu

Yes the first 500 seem to take a while, unless you live in the boonies ;LOL it took me a week to get 500 on my 76 when I put the TPI in it, but after that the fun starts:cool . But if the snow holds off you might get it done before you have to put it away.

Well...if you think you might lose control and jam those snow shoes thru the floor.....Just make sure Mrs. Heaven is in the passenger seat when you take the Vette out.

You can also wire across the MSD REV PILL input socket and run a long lead wire into the passenger compartment and let Mrs Heaven flick the switch when your eye's roll back in your head and you get to stompen on the loud pedal..;LOL

Mark,

I wondered about that socket. My assumption was that a simple jumper would not complete the circuit, but maybe I'm wrong.

If I'm wrong, no big deal. The removing of the pill is only one of 27 steps I perform to help make it hard to steal. Firing this baby up requires running down a checklist like in a 747. ;LOL Just getting it out of the garage requires an additional 4 or 5 steps.

By the time everything's a go, I'm ready to go back in for a snack. :D

Be careful now....That pill socket is for a plug in resistor. Different values resistors are contained in those little pills. By changing the restance factor in the circuit causes the unit to "Cross Miss Fire" the motor.

DO NOT DEAD SHORT THAT SOCKET MY FRIEND ..Reminds me of that song.."Don't Bogart That Joint My Friend"....Check with MSD before you dead short it.

You could end up with a dead MSD Box. I thing that restive circuit is on the Base of the firing transistor..which might not like a dead short.

By the way, I got so excited about the first blast down the Freeway that I forgot to report on some of the basics.

The Vette Brakes Performance Plus suspension kit handled beautifully. And, after the front and rear alignment on Monday, the car steers and tracks like an arrow. Braking? So far, it feels great, but no panic stops yet.

Considering that every part has been off the car, and then replaced with new or completely rebuilt, I was expecting a least a few glitches -- things like maybe some brake pulsation, or some odd vibrations at speed. So far, nothing.

After pulling off the Freeway, I remember thinking, "Geesh, that was brave. You had every damn nut and bolt apart, you idiot, and you just did that????" ;LOL

Knowing that you had everything apart and then put it together yourself should make you more confident, you did tighten those lugnuts now didn't you? :D
