I think the boys at GM must have been up late smoking a bit of the forbidden weed to come up with the design! :D :eek :( :bash

The nose cone on a Corvette is the sexiest part of the car. :love

What were they thinking? I hope it is just an option.

Unbelieveably ugly....simply beyond belief. My pet fish could have done a better design job. That dog won't hunt.

Right now, I'm sure glad I have a C5. :eyerole

Not meaning to offend anyone but the plate mounting looks as bad as the rest of the car in my opinion.:(

I have posted this same poll in two other large vette forums. I thought that you might like to know that the total vote from all forums is

305 "Must not go into production"
5 "Like the design"
That must be the 5 GM engineers that came up with this stupid design!!!

The current vote is :

352 "must not go into production"
6 "like the design" (I agree these must be the GM guys responsible)

I have been assured by one forum sponsor that high placed GM guys have seen the posts on this issue. One post claims Mr. Hill has ordered changes. Until I know for sure I am not letting up. I have emailed C&D, Autoweek, R&T, and MT about this gaff and have included pics. It will be interesting to see the comments they get from the corvette group.

The 352 voters represent $19,360,000 in approximate sales. I hope GM listens and fixes this atrocity.

so this plate holder is a joke, right ? :(

So why doesn't GM make a plate mount above the front grill/intake that maintains the exact shape of the car's nose (sorta like the c5/4). Comes body color and fits like a glove with no effect on the aero. Then, those of us that have to have a front plate to even get an inspection sticker, can buy a clear plastic cover that replaces the plate, it has the same shape of the nose of the car, and no effect on the aero.

I'm no engineer but I sure as hell can figure out the fix (and I'm sure everyone else can too)!!!

I'm completely stumped as to why Dave Hill and all those guys in Michigan CAN'T!!!

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!:hb :hb :hb :hb :hb

I have opened the same polls on three forums. Normally I don't care about "views" much on threads, but for this issue I thought you might like to know that we have had 7,910 views in less than one week on these polls.

The voting as of right now is:
455 votes - "the LP mount is hideous and must not go into production." 98.5%
7 votes - like the LP mount and think it "blends with the C6 styling lines. 1.5%

One poster claims to have worked on it and defends it to the death. Another now claims that the mount displayed is an aftermarket mount and GM has not desided on a mount. Yet another poster has stated that Mr. Hill has seen the reaction and directed a new mount and location. Due to the presentation and reaction of these posters, I have no idea if any of this information is fact.

I do know that many, many of you have raised your voices in unison. I don't have any idea how this will all turn out, but thank you. Please continue to help by keeping the front plate issue hot at any gathering you attend. The vette's reputation for style and beauty is very much at risk in about 31 states. Even if you do not reside in one of the 31 states, your fellow vette lovers need your support.

Thanks for voting,
Longtimer

I agree with you. I am in the military and could end up anywhere. If I had to put that hideous thing on the front of a Vette, I might just go with a used C5 instead of a C6.

Well look at the bright side. This thing is hideous. New Corvette owners tend to be an affluent/influential lot. Between GM and these irate influential Corvette owners, maybe we can get these stupid front license plate laws dropped.:beer Charles

I wish that were likely Charles, but Front plates = revenue for these 31 states. In Ca the number of Photo-red-light intersections is rising dramatically. For those of you not familiar with these, a sensor detects when a car enters the intersection against a red light and takes a picture of the car with the front plate and the driver. With no front plate, they have no place to start to get the driver, so Ca has begun a crack down on enforcement of the plate law.

A similar device is used on our few toll roads. When a car without a transponder blows through the sensors, a pic is taken to track down the violator.

Additionally, the front plate is an excellent target for any radar or laser gun.

All these things mean $$$ to strapped states. They won't be willing to give it up because a few voters (us) want our cars to look better.

GM Broke the C6, They better fix it!!

YIKES! :(

Officer please just give me the ticket. It's worth $50 to not have that ugly hunk on plastic defacing my Corvette.

I can't speak for all states but in Ca, the first violation is a fixit ticket. The second (I think) is also a fixit ticket. The third violation is treated as a moving vilation for $$ and for points and insurance.

GM - FIX THIS THING!

Congratulations to those people who apparently got GM to change this awful design. We'll see if they actually do it, of course. In the new issue of Corvette Magazine there are a number of letters to the editor concerning the styling of the C6. I have a hunch that, no matter what propoganda Hill or Lutz feeds us, you will see a number of changes in the styling of this car, and it will have a relatively short life style-wise, and that a major redesign will follow and this will be a sea change in the styling direction (or rather, non-direction) of the car. It can't come too soon in my opinion, and I again applaud and encourage those people who have worked to get GM to change this license plate abortion. It seems small, but every little bit helps.

Thanks and round of cheers and beers to Longtimer for starting the LP mount polls. It allowed all of us forum geeks to voice our opinion (hopefully to GM).

As you all know I have been VERY active in the fight against the front plate mount but I have also been quick to point out that (other than the mount) I like the C6 design. Although I doubt that it will go down in vette history as on of the top 2 or 3 classic beauties in vette history, I think it is a better looking design than anything Ford or chrysler have EVER produced. Perhaps that is why I am so very enraged about the plate mount. This note is a bit defensive in light of the link that Rob posted. During this "campaign" I have repeatedly seen diversion and avoidance of the main issue in my polls - THE LICENSE PLATE BRACKET / MOUNT AND ITS POSITION ON THE C6. My polls have NOT been trying to attack the entire design of the C6. Rob, if I am misconstruing the purpose of your post - I may well be - I apologize here.

Voting Update day 7:

531 "must not go into production" 98.2%
10 "like the design" 1.8%

... CorvetteForum locked the poll Sunday Night, so the daily increases for Monday and Tuesday come from the two "smaller" forums.

Are you listening GM?

Ummm....yes, you completely misconstrued the purpose of my post. :L

I had been thinking of writing that Wheelspin article for a while and since this thread was focusing on a small design issue, I decided to post a link to my article in this thread.

Ok fine....I'll admit it....I tried diverting some traffic to my article since the subject matter was similar. :bash

;LOL
