The extent to which this is a result of GM's preoccupation with achieving 186 (300km/h) for the Euro mini-market is unclear, but the fact that they chose to mount the plate above the carp mouth and by drilling holes suggests that under some conditions there are either aero (certainly drag and probably lift) and/or cooling issues that will result from blocking any portion of the opening.
Rwd: If they did design it with Europe in mind, they must have not checked their fact books well (or at all).. Most European Countries require a front plate. No excuses (mostly for redlight/photo op and radar tickets).. If you get caught without one, you are (in Germany at least) considered driving without insurance and fined big time. Or get the car impounded..
So, even so i now live in PA, to hide hide the hideous holes i run a real German plate in the front..

:puke
That thing is ugly (Aftermarket or GM).. I voted NO NO NO!

MAN IS U UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hang the plate under the grill. Or, better yet, just throw it on the dashboard!
What was the GM Engineering thinking???
General Motors... We Do Things Right, Because We Do Things TWICE!
Think again. This is a $50K Vette. Not a toy.

Ok fine....I'll admit it....I tried diverting some traffic to my article since the subject matter was similar. :bash ;LOL

Looks like some GM exec's kid just graduated from college and needed a job.
Just went to the dealer and got my deposit on the C6 back!!

Keep the votes coming - thanks.

Here is your chance to show you listen to your customers GM, great publicity if you respond and change the mount!!

Just so no one is under the impression this is an afterthought:
My 97 Camaro has the same ugly-a** mounting POS for the front plate. I threw it in the trunk and thats where it has been since..
So GM guys designed the car WITH it in mind (IMHO)... Ignorance...

Understood.

Agreed, and some of them are larger than US plates.

That is the ugliest thing I have seen. I assume that the 3 indentations on the frame are for mounting bolts. That means that you have to drill holes in the nose of the car to mount a plate. GROSS!!

Why don't they consider putting a removable notch in the lower chin piece that would allow a plate to be installed in a recess, or leave the piece in place if you don't need a plate?

Somebody needs to fix this before the start selling the C6 in to those of us in states that require front plates.

I sincerely hope that is not the real deal, but a ploy by GM execs to tease us a bit. Surely GM would not build a beautiful car like the C6 Corvette then slap that on it. Just about any plate will look ugly up front, but I have to think that one won the "Most Ugly" contest. What they need is a slick hinged unit, with remote control that drops down on demand by a peace officer and swings completly out of the way for the rest of it's life. What an idea for the aftermarket...

My 96 T/A has the same thing. I never drilled it in and got stopped a couple of times. I was not about to drill holes in my car.

GM - do you really care what your customer thinks, or do you intend to shove this thing down the throats of every buyer in 31 states?

I like it. Flows with the rest fo the design... LOL

Mr. Lutz, is your "new" General Motors truly responsive to customers or is that just all lip service?

Ugly

This really looks like an after-thought....with all that engineering genius, not to mention effort and brain power that went into the re-design of this car, how on earth did they come up with this......unbelievable....guess I will keep my C3 forever and look for a good C5....can't imagine much success with this design...

And to set the record straight for my Canadian colleague in Montreal, most jurisdictions in Canada require a front plate, certainly here in Ontario...besides the provinice of Quebec, there are few exceptions......

If the choice is having to wear this on my car or find another state that does require a front plate....well, the choice would be easy. Move...

I have to say that the design for this part on such a beautiful car must have been outsourced to the lowest bidder...(typical GM Worldwide Purchasing at its best)

Even the supplier who molds this part must be just as big an idiot as the purchasing and engineering manager at GM to approve it.

Sweet Jesus, that's just miserably bad. If it didn't stick out, it might be acceptable...

... no, still not acceptable. This is supposed to be the American flagship sports car, and you just can't do this like an afterthought. It has to carry the banner of not only GM but all of American automotive efforts.

The real problem is Yankee states that use two plates so that Vinnie's brother can have a job.

Just do away with front plates. Problem solved!
