Mystery 327 next gen

Mr Gasket pn 6129 is waterpump pulley shim kit.

Mr Gasket pn 6129 is waterpump pulley shim kit. Weiand & Moroso have same kit but I don't recall pn's ...any will fit both 5/8" & 3/4" pilot stub.

Just a generalization, so don't hold me to it ... but I think 68 thru 70 sb sharks had 5/8" pilot-hole in wp pulley ... 71 up sb sharks had 3/4" pilot-hole in wp pulley ... I think all sharks had short pump. Corrections encouraged!!!!

So the Long pump/short pump deal

LONG PUMP
The spacing from the timing cover to the back of the pump is 5/8 of an inch.

So 1 & 5/8 from base of pump to back plate of pump.
From base of pump to flange looks like
1 1/2 inches taller ( eyeball ) than a short pump.

SHORT PUMP
5 & 3/4 inches from flange to base.
1 inch from base to back of pump

Found a SPECTRE shim set PN4480 today for the water pump flange 4 spacers.

/vig ... From base of pump to flange looks like 1 1/2 inches taller ( eyeball ) than a short pump.

:eyerole Dunno WTF I was thinking!:SLAP :SLAP me silly!!! Probably closer to 1-1/4" ... NOT 1/4" ... my apology. I think a short std pump is about 1/4" shorter than a short "corvette" pump.

No Pictures?

SHEEEEEEEEESH....What a let down. Just kiddin', but I DO like the pictures, watching the progress.:bang

Rowdy

I need a pix from U

How does the alt bolt up?

I assume either....

On the stock exhaust there is a cast piece that holds the bottom of the alt up from the #1 cyl

OR

I had clunky headers... there was an after market piece that bolted over the flange for the headers that was the lower alt support.

And the upper support was an arm that bolted to the top right ( looking at front ) water pump bolt.

And some pix

Since the weather looks bad for paint.....
Sunday 9/29

The tranny

It's a B&M turbo 400... but I think I can shoe horn it in... heck if you can get a 700 r 4 in there.

She's clean & ready to rock....

Or I could swap it with sombody else

Mashed potatoes anyone?

For those of you who have NO IDEA what a potatoe masher is...... it's a vapor seperator for the OLDER cars!

A pix is worth 1,000 words!

Bottoms UP

One pineapple upside down long block!

And the flip

Ok happy Rowdy!!!!!!

Well back to work for this boy!

Weather didn't really hold today

I got some parts painted....

Oh by the way.. it was a 3 row pulley, as I was de gunking... it came apart.....

So now I can put the 2 in and just leave off the 3rd.

And I think she's ready for a break in burn

We set the intake today..... rebuilt the stock distrib ( for fire up only ) put the coil on did alot of misc clean up work so she could fire if needed!

So now I have to find the correct exhaust manifolds, and other little bits of stuff.

I have to put different rockers on so I can get oil in her.

Valves are set

Almost there..............

So anybody got a car for me yet?

Vig!

Ok the BAD news

Money outa pocket $1859.69

Plus initial $400.00

$2259.69

GULP

But that included the engine stand, tranny & the metal jacketed upper radiator hose I used to foil the RAT!

So I think I'm still ahead of the game!

If you don't count the time....

Vig!

Thanks Vig

Pictures are great as always. I will take a shot of my alternator but, I don't think it's going to help you. Mine is on the passenger side of the motor and I had a friend machine me a one of a kind out of aluminum solid block, I forget the name of it, T something or other. It's looking good man, all you need now is the car to put it in.

Today

Got the new GM chrome rocker arm covers on.
Filled engine with oil.
Oil primed the engine (with drill powered tool).
Got the water temp sender in.
Put the pullies on.
Aligned the water pump hub.
Power steering bracket on.
Plug in rear of block ( for oil sender line )
Put distrib back in.
Put in screw for blockoff of fuel pump cavity.
Put in allen head plug for future oil temp sender ( on top of oil filter mount )
Spun her over ( just with starter )

She's almost ready to RUMBHA!

All I need now is a car~!

Vig!

The 10/6/02 update

The alt bracket issue is now resolved.

And a wider shot of the front

So considering the $$$$ I spent this weekend on the 88... this is just fine!

The top!

Now I need a carb!

Still making my mind up on this one... will probably go with a Holley 650 for startup... then upgrade later ( funding permitting )

I still need a car though!

I'm sure some RICH CAC member has one lying around that he ( or she ) would be GLAD to donate to this cause!

Think of all the great info just on the engine build...

Right?
